My professional career - your advice

in swarmintelligence •  8 years ago

Hi there,

I'd like to ask you for advice, to use swarm intelligence.
I am 32 years old and have been working as an actuary for a Swiss health insurer for 3 years. I studied Geography and Statistics, just wrote the last exam of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) curriculum and have experience in quantitative market research.

I am very fascinated by the possibilites of the blockchain technology and would like to combine my capabilities regarding statistics/insurance/finance and my interest/knowhow in/of the blockchain tech.
Overview of my strenths:
-statistical modeling
-actuarial tasks (pricing & reserving)
-R (statistical programming language)
-SQL
-VBA
-scientific writing (worked at a University as a Research Assistant)

Do you have any suggestions how I could match my qualification and my "hobby"?

I prefer your comments over upvotes ;-)
Kind regards
Roy

Nice to meet you. I come from a development background. Have written some relatively well known smart-contracts, crowdfunds, etc.

I will follow you.

I am looking for someone with your skill set, to stay in touch with. The skills you have, and the skills I have, may be a good match someday.

I am interested in blockchain + IoT at the moment. I think there is extraordinary opportunity there.

I also like the idea of tokenization of assets, real estate, and the like. Perhaps car sales would be the first step i.e user creates a token for their car, to sell car, buyer pays for the token, seller simply transfers token to new owner. Not sure why I am posting this for everyone to steal. ;)

You also suggest you have experience in the insurance industry. How about, you and I team up with the IoT guys I know, and we create an insurance company, using rain/temperature sensors for farmers. No rain, bad weather, they receive payout (aa quick example). Obviously, the data would need to be aggregated, to prevent fraud etc etc.

I can code all the backend payment systems, I can crowdfund the idea. You have the insurance background, I have IoT hardware guys at the ready.

Let's do this! :P

Hi darknet,
Thanks for your answer! Your ideas sound very interesting, especially creating an insurance company. In which country do you live? A team-up with your IoT guys would be interesting. If you live in Europe, perhaps we could meet here: http://hcpp.cz/

Unfortunately, for me, I am in Australia. We can still stay in contact. My well known IoT friends are here as well. Let us keep in touch.

As a dev I find this post interesting :D upvoted

Interesting times! Thanks. :)

nice repertoire, you can go into steem speculations or just make a series of posts here based on your statistical models of STEEMITs future

Thanks @mrlogic,
Posting about statistics is a good idea. I'd rather post about general statistics because self-referential posts (on steemit about steemit) are abundant :-)

Write articles about statistics. As a code monkey, I would love to learn or refresh my knowledge from school about not just statistics but also about the related interesting subjects of regression that are used in A.I.
My blockhain project is 2c0.de, a novel type mobile phone barcode for a coin payments.

Thanks @tocode,
I will try with an introduction to statistics , either applied to climatology or to insurance. Keep you posted.

I wish I could help, but since I have no clue I'll just upvote your post :)

Not sure what I could advise, but I would think there must be some interesting opportunities in the new Steem economy. Could people provide financial services? I expect you can at least do some interesting analysis of what's happening

Good idea using the swarm intelligence! I'll remember yout request. Sometimes I meet people with demand in IT knowledge.
