Millions of Americans work in the Military Industrial Complex searching for the quickest and sometimes the slowest ways (depending on the targets) of killing humans, their wives and their children. For producing other and more peaceful things than that, the people of the USA have the Chinese do that. The Chinese produce most of the products the Americans need. Whole factories are shut down and millions of people left towns to quest for work and creating ghost towns - all this to concentrate on the production of arms.
