Expanding the Segira Setting: Provinces and Cities

in tabletop-rpg •  6 years ago

I've been a little less productive lately due to day job stuff and just not sleeping well, but I've been working on some of the parts of Segira that are a little less developed.

The Provinces and Cities of Segira

Segira is divided into five provinces and has four noteworthy cities

Aramaza

Aramaza is the central province, home to the capital of Zastivo and also to Yesov, its sister city. A mountainous region, Aramaza is difficult to traverse and is relatively light on industrial development and population. However, Aramaza is the center of political influence.

Zastivo, in the south-east of the province, is home to both the Segiran Orthodox Church and the Segiran royal family's seat of power; a tradition the constitutional monarchy continued by making it home to the parliament. Zastivo is a city of around 200,000 in peace, though during the war many of its citizens have been displaced.

Yesov is on the opposite side of the Aramaza, bordering the northern steppes of Teispa. A city of about 80,000, it holds a military base and was more influential under the Communist regime. It is the industrial center of the province.

The south of Aramaza changes hands between different Segiran partisans, and the northern region around Yesov is hotly contested by the superpowers.

Tesispa

The northern-most province of Segira that stretches from the eastern border all the way to the western border of the country, Tesispa is a land of steppes and flats. It is rural and has few people living in it, with much of the land being unsuitable for use other than as pasture for livestock.

However, Tesispa was less heavily controlled by the Communists, and the locals are fiercely anti-Soviet. The region is independent in the conflict, and has largely been spared the bulk of fighting, as both superpowers consider it to be a "no man's zone" and have avoided any large movements through Tesispa.

As a consequence of this, it is home to mercenaries and arms dealers looking to play both sides and make a quick buck off of the conflict.

Vahar

Vahar borders the Mediterranean Sea, with Tsobil to its west. Long the industrial center of Segira, it was devastated by the conflicts of the early 20th century and wound up being the seat of the Communist government. Zaggar, Segira's largest port city, is located in Vahar.

Zaggar is small for a city, with only 70,000 residents, but it is nonetheless one of the most important cities in Segira. Handling 90% of the shipping and distribution for the whole country prior to the war, the Soviet takeover of the city was a major coup in their effort to destabilize Segiran independence movements hostile to Communist influence.

Vahar is solidly controlled by the Soviets, except for some rural districts that have been untouched by the conflict. The local partisans are friendly to the Soviets and resist any encroachment by other Segiran or international factions.

Tsobil

Tsobil is the south-west province of Segira, and borders the Mediterranean. Not particularly noteworthy prior to the war, its small ports have become an ersatz replacement for the larger port at Zaggar now that the Soviets occupy it.

Tsobil is hostile to most foreign influences, though NATO forces have generally occupied the region despite partisan resistance. Extreme nationalist movements, such as the Crown's Wolves, were forced from southern Aramaza and wound up in Tsobil, where they have been preparing to retake Zastivo.

Astgi

The agricultural center of the country, Astgi is on the western part of the country. Astgi is also home to Hrazil, the second-largest city in Segira and one of the most Westernized parts of the country.

Hrazil is home to 120,000 Segirans, and was home to the financial institutions and international businesses that sprang up in the country under the constitutional monarchy. Wealthy and affluent, many of the elites have fled the country, but many prominent members of the Segiran Freedom Party remain in the city to exert influence over the state of affairs.

Astgi has been occupied by NATO forces, which were met with open arms by most of the local populace who feared a return to Communist rule.
