A Teacher's Daily Struggle..

Being a teacher is a passion. It requires great effort, time, energy, patience and hardwork.
Who says being a teacher is easy? No, it is definitely not that easy.

Here are some of the reasons why:

1. If you are just a newly-hired teacher, you'll be assigned to very far areas with limited means of transportation and even communication. Traveling very early in the morning and going home late on a very muddy road is just the one of the daily burdens that teachers carry.

2. The job demands so much of your time. You need to accomplish many things for even just a day. Daily lesson plans, checking of children's works, construction of instructional materials and many more. Teachers don't work only in schools but they also bring their works at home. They are working even on weekends just to submit all reports needed. That is why there are some teachers who are not able to get married.

3. It does require patience. Dealing with bunch of kids from different families with different personalities is really draining. Facing 40-65 children everyday, and sometimes in 2-3 grade levels and teaching all the subjects to them could really test your patience. Yes, it is not a piece of cake.

4. Lack of materials, books and insufficient classrooms. This is very true. As a teacher, you need to be very flexible, smart and innovative to cope up with this situation.

5. "Teachers always need to be resourceful". This is what the Department always tells us. There are many things that DepEd (Department of Education) is asking from us. Yet, whenever we ask where would we get the budget, this is what they always tell us. We are the ones who find all means just to support and implement all athe agency's programs and projects.

Those are just some of the reasons why teaching is not easy.

So if you want to be a teacher, you should be a teacher by heart.

This is also why I feel down when somebody says "We're just teachers". No, we are absolutely more than that.
