I know this is too much, but we went to Japan again and this post is really late posting because we went there in January, 2019. It was such a challenging trip because we were traveling with a three-year old kid.
Regardless of traveling with a toddler, we went to many different places this time, so it was both tiring and fun. We took Shinkansen(bullet train) 5 times with JR Pass, really made use of it very well.
So, 5 Shinkansen is for 5 different places, Takayama, Kyoto, Hakodate, Sapporo and finally Tokyo. Can you believe it? We traveled to many different places with a kid within 15 days. Moreover, we were on budget trip. We tried to minimize our cost as much as possible.
The most challenging thing was to catch the first Shinkansen. As soon as we touch down Haneda Airport, we rushed to Tokyo train station to catch Shinkansen. We were really taking the risk because if we miss that Shinkansen, we won't be able to check-in the Hotel and would have forced us to book a new booking which would be an extra cost, and could cause more constraint on our budget.
Furthermore, there was no direct Shinkansen to Takayama and we had to take Shinkansen to Nagoya first, then change another Express train to get there. Luckily, we managed to catch all the train, and got there around 9.00pm.
Everything was covered with snow and it was the very first time I've seen snow in my life in person. Amazing, amazing, amazing. ❄️❄️❄️
Snowing heavily at Takayama station
There are two things to do in Takayama, visit Hida Folk Village and eat Hida beef at old town. I got to be honest here. This Hida village was the best place in the entire trip. This doesn't mean the rest of the trip was boring though 😛.
To go to the village, we had to buy return bus ticket from the bus interchange right beside the train station. Why it was the best for me? Because it wasn't crowed. The quite place with right amount of people.
It was nice walking around the village. We really had a great time. Then, we went to the old town where we saw more people. It was such a small town, everything was walking distance. Unfortunately, my son was too tired and fell asleep, so I had carry him and not able to take a lot of photos anymore.
We rested at the hotel in the afternoon and had hida beef soba for dinner at Kajibashi. We walked round and round around the town until we had decided to eat that shop because everything was so expensive and it was the only shop with reasonable price. The taste is not bad too.
delicious
Honesty one day is enough for Takayama. It was a good lucky decision because we were heading to Kyoto to the next day early morning.
