Seattle's First Amazon Cahierless Store Opened and I'm So Confused 😐

Seattle debuted its first Amazon cashierless store, billed as being a shopping experience without lineups and the need to interact with any humans to pay for your goods

The concept is kinda cool I guess? Shoppers register with their cellphone at the door and then enter, grab whatever they want and just leave. The transactions are recorded on your smartphone and Amazon bills you later.

We all hate standing in line to pay for the items we want to buy at big box stores but I'm perplexed..

Check out this picture from Seattle..

That's a lineup isn't it? 😐

Well good thing noone was inconvenienced with waiting in a lineup inside to pay for their items! Instead shoppers were all standing outside in the cold to get inside so they then could walk out without waiting in a lineup to pay inside. Confused, so am I..

Amazon you are a genius group!

First you destroy small retail with your online ordering model, then you come back with brick and mortar stores to trick shopping zombies into not waiting in a lineup inside but waiting in one outside. Take my f*cking money please!

Thanks for reading,

Such an interesting idea! I can see this spreading like wildfire as it would reduce the overhead of cashiers...for better or for worse...

Hell yeah, this is definately the future of brick and mortar I believe. Sure there's no customer service but I imagine that shoppers can ask questions on their phone and recieve answers. Maybe they'll pay support in areas that have lower minimum wage?..well we know they definately will

Thank you so much for sharing but I am really confused about the security of this system. How does the whole system work? What if people took more things than they show on the smartphone?

Scannable bar codes on every item. The stores are outfitted with many cameras aswell. There have been a couple instances of the system failing and people walking out with items that weren't billed but Amazon comped those and let ppl have them free after being alerted by the customers themselves. Amazon said they've had very few instances of ppl getting free items as their system seems to be working

Lol so true about the waiting in line.

What can I say other than...

Brilliant!! 🍺

Hahaha, that's really funny. That line also seemed to be like 10 times as long as the typical lines when paying for your items in the store..

Hopefully there won't be any lines once the hype has settled down a little bit.

that's a store I'd never darken the door of. I also refuse to use self-checkouts at stores too. People need jobs. At least when I order online, people need to process and ship the order.

It would appear that with or without paople, the lineup is still there. They just don't create any jobs.

I want to wait in line to shop in a store where I don't have to wait in line to pay.....
