Diving Into Steemed

I came across Steemed this morning and was immediately drawn into it. I didn't quite get the concept of Steem and Steem dollars until I came across this post:

How to turn your steem dollars into those real, sweet sweet dollars using PayPal, in like 30 minutes, step by step with pics

Then the penny dropped.. err should that be the bitcoin dropped? Until then I thought it was some cute way of sorting out popularity of a person's writing.

Don Tapscott and Blockchain Technology

I've been sort of aware of the concept of bitcoin but have never really taken the time to explore the concept. I know that bitcoin runs on a technology called blockchain. I came across the topic one day when I was reading an article about a book Don Tapscott had published, Blockchain Revolution.

Don Tapscott is a Canadian. He's recognized as a world authority on  innovation, media and the social impact of technology. The article was discussing the possibility of services, like electricity, being delivered from a local green source, through the use of blockchain technology.

When you live in a province with the highest electricity rates in North America, you pay attention to cheaper possibilities.

A Bit About Who I Am

Guess right now would be a good time to mention, I am Canadian.

That province with the expensive hydro (electricity to some) in Ontario. I live in the eastern part of the province, along the Highway of Heroes.

The Highway of Heroes is the route Canada's war dead traveled during our time in Afghanistan. They were flown home to Trenton. Then by motorcade to the coroner's office in Toronto. Finally they were taken to their families.

The families accompanying those fallen Canadians were shown respect for their child's service from everyone of the 50+ overpasses between Trenton and Toronto. Yes, I was one of those thousands who went to the bridges, in all kinds of weather. No matter how long the wait was when they were delayed.

I'm a 55+ sort of geek who writes, does websites and is exploring internet marketing to develop passive income as part of my retirement. I love to learn, to read and to put both to work.

I recently dropped my mortgage agent's license. Wasn't really my idea to be one in the first place and my heart really wasn't in it.My heart has always been in doing this sort of thing.

Communicating and sharing electronically. I know I am one small voice in a huge ocean of voices. That is okay. I don't need to be heard by them all. I only need to be heard by one person at a time to succeed in sharing.

So, this is my first post and it is my goal to add others on a range of subject to it. Join me on ride if you'd like.

thank you

nice post and welcome

thank you for your kind words

Tapscott's book is great, I work in financial services and he is right on point with the disruptive use cases. Welcome and good luck here at Steemit. Power up!

I'm waiting for that step by step guide you mention to be reduced to three steps before I consider powering down. Let the SP & SD grow with interest.

I know what you mean @cryptobro but it managed to turn a light on for me and make the whole concept a work in progress. Tapscott is an interesting thinker, we seem to be getting fewer and fewer of them these days unfortunately.

Dude, I live in Nova Scotia, you don't know expensive electricity :p

Welcome btw.

it's a question which is more expensive... the actual hydro or the delivery charge. There are people in rural Ontario who turn off their main... so their hydro is zero.. delivery charge.. $118 .. you may not have it as bad as you think :)

Delivery, I just looked that shit up and I think you are right.

wild eh... and isn't getting any better. Got a friend told me today she's thinking of heading east to live.
