May I suggest...

in taxes •  7 years ago

A brief few lines to throw out an idea. We currently have a tax system that tries to tax based on income. I want to think that we could change that into a environment first type approach.

Main idea is that all taxes should be based on consumption.

For example a one per cent transaction tax on every exchange of money without exceptions. Another example would be to tax based on distance transported ie something made in your state - zero, next state over 5 % , another country 10%.
Property tax could be based on carbon footprint or square footage or some other measure of damage to planet.

I am sure there are better ideas out there.

Renewables are not enough. ALL aspects of our activities need to be re-examined.

Thanks
