There are so many different types of people I've met through driving the taxi! From the worker bees to the "worker" bees! I enjoy it nonetheless. I've talked to some of the people I drive around, but there are some who don't care to talk and only want to get where they are going. I understand both types. Some of us need someone to talk to; while some do not like talking about much.

I've met a great deal of those people who truly just need a shoulder to cry on. I have always had that type of personality, where people tell me of their woes even when I haven't asked. I've always been a pretty good listener who is able to adapt to my surroundings. I tend to believe my calling is helping others. Whether through conversation or just by being a friend.

These are a few of the rides that have stuck out to me since my last "taxi cab confessions" post!

The Bar Scene

I had to pick up a customer who was at one of the many local bars and got a bit behind, lucky for him he was able to drink more drinks!! I finally get to the bar and walk in. It's been a looong time since I've gone to a bar, and it was pretty interesting being sober in the bar. I look around and there's about 6 people left, closing time! The band was playing a rock tune and I walk up to a man at the bar and assumed he was whoI was to take home. He looks at me like I was his only savior in the world, lol. He asks me am I here to take him home, me being me laughed and said is that a pick up line! He laughed so hard his hat fell to the floor! I proceeded to tell him I am his taxi driver and Yes i am here to take you home to your place! It was a fun car ride for both of us I'm sure. He said I'm glad they sent me apurty one, I said oh it's just your beer goggles. I think I really made his night! Humor is my go to when my anxiety kicks in! I got him to his house and put my headlights on his door so he could help himself in, he came back to the car and gave me a $15 tip for waiting and making sure he got inside! Pretty cool if you ask me!

The Student

I live in a college town. In the heart of the college there are dorms and apartments galore. I was driving through looking for the right building, which none are labeled in a very helpful manner, butI finally find the customer after having to drive through parking lot after parking lot with no power steering, my muscles are growing more powerful by the moment! The young woman needs to get to the nearest store and back to her place asap. She finally returns and starts asking about me and what I did before I started driving the taxi. I told her I've been of work for about a year and had been posting on steemit and that i work with @apolymask and the #informationfinding championship. I handed her a few images that @yeszuzia has created for us thatI had printed off of shutterfly that had the website information on the back. I asked her to hand out three and keep one for herself. She asked me what we do for the information finding championship, I told her right now there is a round for philosophy she said she was a student and her main studies are philosophy right now! I told her it was meant to be lol. She said she will check it out and hopefully will.

The Hospital

I had to pick up two people from the hospital at the same time, what are the odds of that! One was a young man who only had on a gown and hospital socks and a pair of jeans. It was about 40 degrees that night. I asked where his shoes and jacket were, he didn't know. I tried to give him my jacket but he wouldn't take it. I dropped him off where he asked me to, but I felt so so bad that he wasn't going inside, he waited for me to drive away before he moved one way or the other. I wanted to help, but some people do not want to feel like a charity case, I assume. I really worried about this guy for a while, I dropped the other woman off and drive back to the neighborhood where i took the man but he was no where around, i just hope he got to where he was going and is warm.

These are just a few of my experiences this far, I don't want to get into some of the others just yet. There are so many people here who could become so much more, hopefully I can help one ride at a time!!!

Nice to be onboard :)

Some people just get others and empathetically know how to be with those they cross paths with in their daily lives. It sounds as though you have that skill and I do believe it is a skill, a highly under-rated one.

I like to think I exhibit it too. I understand when people say

"Humans are idiots"

"All people do is make war"

"Ya can't trust anyone these days"

As I said I get why they say that, but ya so often see what you are looking for or expecting to see in those around in daily life...I choose to see people as basically good and expect the best from them, similarly when I hear people espousing their views about how crap life is, how here on Earth is the real hell and similar views I choose to see life as an adventure to be grabbed and steered.

Again I see why people say things like that and feel that way, but surely it is best not to go down that road, right?

In a cab I'm sure you see some rude, obnoxious folks from time to time, but hey shrug it off, let them choose to feel the and act the way they do and retain your integrity. You sound like a thoughtful, kind person (probably not 100% of the time, who is?) Sometimes the dark days get us down but simple acts like shining the lights on the guys door, wanting to help the proud guy inside and offering the (likely struggling) student a better way, shows you you are at your core!

Have an awesome journey filled with friends, fulfillment, family and FUN

I would like to think that most of us are good people, i try not to judge a book by its cover, but i also am quite cautious in life. Call it a defense mechanism or what have you but I believe ultimately we all just wnt to be heard and accepted. Those who don't well hey I'm good with that too!

Life gives us hints in the way it leads us to today, a strong defense mechanism is like any other warning sign, there to guide us along it's path safely. :)

I have gotten through many tasks in life where that little voice says pay attention!!!

I think it’s a very interesting job to do. You get to meet so many different people, with all their different stories...

There are so many people who seem skeptical of the whole idea of steemit tho, I wish i had more time in a ride lol!

I want to be the kind of driver that you are. You take care of your passengers not just a regular passenger but you go far and beyond than what is called for. You have a big heart and great humor that goes with that which makes you all the more lovable.

I think compassion definitely goes further than anything else. I also believe treat others as you want to be treated! Sometimes my humor can get me in "trouble" lol.

Those were some really nice stories, I also like how you printed and handed out some cards for steemit, and IFC game. You never know, they just might join us.

I know there will be soon enough! I'm looking forward to change and it starts at home, right? So I'm trying to change things locally so one day this town can get out of the "funk" it's in!

That's awesome of you! I feel very similar and have been the one people often come to to talk to about their problems.. Perhaps that's one reason we resonate so well, kindred spirits of sorts! :) Glad we bumped into each other, this all wouldn't be the same without you!

I told her right now there is a round for philosophy she said she was a student and her main studies are philosophy right now! I told her it was meant to be lol.

That's awesome! What a cool synchronicity. :) Hopefully she does look into it more! Also.. Hopefully that guy in the cold is okay too! I'm sure he probably is...

I think in time and getting to know the regulars and bringing up what I've been doing if they are interested the conversation will eventually end up with them signing up!
