IS IT WORTH TRYING TO MAKE MATCHA AT HOME?

in tea •  6 years ago

Tried making matcha cuz it's not available in my country. Also, getting it online from overseas is really pricey. So, an idea popped up in my head - "I'm gonna try making matcha at home". Now, the question is...was it successful?...Or not? Here's the answer, "I failed utterly". Well, it's a given cuz matcha is made from carefully picked young leaves and also processed carefully. I used my blender to turn green tea leaves into powder. That process was successful but after that, everything I did was useless. I'll mark the difference now;

  1. The matcha I made didn't mix well while the original one makes fine paste
  2. The tea I made with those was...

Original matcha tea looks like...

The one with milk...

While the original looks like...

  1. Made cake too. But since the powder doesn't mix, the colour wasn't green. (But had scent of green tea)

Matcha cake...

[Note: My cake and milk tea does give a vibe that screams - "I might not look like it but I'm made from green tea powder". Also I don't know if the taste is similar or not cuz I never had matcha tea or cake]
Now for the conclusion; I'll say, if you wanna make matcha for baking cake or to taste original matcha tea, it's a bad idea. But if you just make powder to make the flavour and colou a bit more fine, thats okay. For ending I'll say if you still wanna try, you should try cuz it's fun trying whatever you succeed or not. I'll try to make the cake again using brewed green tea. I'm sure I won't get the colour but have no choice. Only scent will do. Wish me luck and also if you r curious about the result, let me know by comment.
