Plastic Bags to be BANNED in Western AustraliasteemCreated with Sketch.

PLASTIC shopping bags will be banned in Western Australia. Other parts of the country already have measures against plastic bags. The ban will take effect from July 1, 2018.

Premier Mark McGowan and Environment Minister Stephen Dawson announced the ban on Tuesday morning. Major supermarkets Coles, Woolworths and IGA will stop providing free plastic bags at checkouts.

DOES THIS MEAN THEY ARE NOT BANNED, STILL AVAILABLE, BUT IN FUTURE CHARGED?

The Premier said the retail industry and community had been working towards a ban for 10 years. "We are following on from the lead of other states who have already done it," he said. "We want to make sure that marine life, our wildlife, our very special environment is protected."

Mr Dawson said the Government would not be supporting calls for plastic drinking straws to also be banned.

In the below I have included informational videos on the plastic problem and on the issue of bio-degradable plastic. Please comment your opinion if you think that a plastic bag ban is the solution? Will it change the way some sub-cultures behave? Is a condome a plastic bag? Where does it finally land? Should we start banning plastic bags, or just sanction all products coming from China? What are the real steps we need to really take in order to impact the development of environmental damage? Banning plastic bags won't change the fact that there are nt enough public trash cans and that they are too small.

So, no more shopping bags, but all the things we buy are still packed in plastic - GREAT!!!

China will have no water left in 15 years. I AM ALL IN ON WATER AND SILVER. I have to sell my car and cat, my bicycle, my laptop, I need to invest even more!

Great post Lucky Digger and some great photos to go with it. The old plastic bag debate is as old as plastic bags themselve - of course the bags we here at COMMUNITY NEWS get from the shops are then reused as bin liners etc... so we believe the plastic bag debate is overblown too. And we agree - the big problem is plastic packaging of food with plastics. Bring back the classic 'brown paper bag' we say.

Technology Channel:
Australia is overexploiting its resources and selling them at minimal profit density per unit of resource. The production depth on all fronts has to be increased significantly. Bio-Engineering, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Robotics, Medical Technology, Transportation, Energy are just a few issues that need to be addressed. Concepts for financing, feasibility and roll-out have to be developed and executed. In business, you are either a leader, or your road to failure is signed. Metrics, in comparison to their geo-cultural counterparts, that show the ongoing development in core areas, need to be presented regularly.

Economy Channel:
People need to be aware of simple economy metrics such as often presented by @jasonstaggers, however also through a larger lense so that a big picture of the economy is depicted at a comparative weekly interval. Australia has a number of ticking time-bombs. One, is a population of 400 000 which will claim equal redistribution of wealth at the estimated rate of AUD 2 000 000 per nose. That makes a future debt of AUD 800B, this bill will be paid sooner or later. Don't worry, it's chicken shit, as long as it's paid ASAP.

I am sorry, I am quite a busy man, to do this efficiently and with reliable precision, I shall need an assistant.

Hahaha - Hi LD. I think what CN meant was for you to do a post on your choice of topic - in accordance with...

Cheers,

I wish the govt would put a return deposit on cigarette butts.

Good point cve3, however it seems here in Perth that's not much of a problem. In general that makes me go ballistic, hate it when people throw their ciggibutts around.

Edible 'plastic bag' made from roots of cassava plant could be the answer https://www.deeperblue.com/avani-introduces-fully-biodegradable-edible-carrier-bag/

I would love to see all packaging completely reusable, recyclable, biodegradable, or edible! It's tragic what a mess we are making of the world and frustrates me daily that I'm a part of making that mess. I don't have other credible options without going on a completely pointless eco-warrior crusade, pointless because change en-mass in needed.

Agree, change en-mass is required. Thanks for commenting goldfish.

about time they should start looking at making bio degradable bags which are as strong as plastics. ...

Yes, the technologies have been around for atleast 40 years, wtf is nobody really doing it?

Plastic in general is a menace to the environment in my opinion.

I copy you on that, thanks for commenting Silverbug.

Thanks for posting this, its something I would not have known about, as I don't watch the fake news, and this is something news worthy. Typical govt solution ban it, as cycling goldfish pointed out there are other solutions to the problem.

Well at least its something towards a cleaner ocean.

Apparently if you eat fish, with all the micro plastic particles in the ocean, its easier just to eat a plastic bag.

Yeah, do something for the environment: Just eat a plastic bag, a more direct and sanitary way to eat a plastic bag anyway. Thanks for commenting gyro.
