Here I was with hubby, then fiancé back in 2013 starting our road trip across the Australian Nullarbor. No exception to the rule my little Katniss had to come with us. This was new; we so hoped she would fit into the life of a travelling cat easily. Lucky for us she did so with such grace.
We left Western Australia late that first day. Only due to me having to submit a few uni assignments and then to hand the unit’s rental keys in. But we were on our way with high spirits and optimism in no time. We had planned ahead and new we wouldn’t make it out of WA’s border and had reservations at a hotel in Coolgardie.
It was a great first day, well half days drive.
Our second day of driving was just as exciting and pleasant as the first. We left early without any problems. Katniss once again was happy to lounge on our laps, on the middle console and every so often she would move around the car exploring.
The roads were long, straight and narrow with few cars in between. The desolate scenery was as magnificent as expected. The dry heat stung your face when you put your head out of the window but it was tranquillity that touched your soul.
We arrived at Eucla in South Australia to settle down for the night. After setting Katniss up in the bathroom with her litter, food and water and her bedding we headed out for dinner. Before leaving the following day we spent some time at the telegraph station ruins. As you can see in the photos over time the ruins have been submerged by white sand; quite a sight to see.
We carried on with our drive and ended up at Ceduna where we had a lovely ocean view motel room for the night. We had to try their famous fresh oysters before leaving the following morning.
Now for those who like oysters, I’m sure this is the place for you. However I am not much of a fan, tho with lemon and salt I found it ok.
Now it was here where we first found to have some dilemma when we went back to the car. When we opened the car door a smell hit our senses. Little Katniss had obviously needed to empty her bowels.
“oh dear we still have around four more days of travelling and we may not be able to get rid of this smell” I exclaimed.
“well first things first” hubby responded “lets find where it is?”
Now like us, you who are reading this wouldn’t believe it; Katniss had gotten into the boot of the car where her litter tray was, without litter and done her business in the tray. THANK GOODNESS, that was easy we took the tray out washed it with a hose put it back in place and was on our way again.
To be continued....
