I took an afternoon off!

So Friday was my niece's 12th birthday and she came to town to visit for a while. It was nice to hang out with her and my sister along with my sister's boyfriend. I work so much and don't really make enough excuses to make time for myself so this was a great excuse to just forget about work for a while and reconnect with family!
Anyway I was thinking of my Steemit family during my afternoon away and thought I'd share some pictures with you!
So I live in the small town of Sault Sainte Marie in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I can see our Canadian sister city across the St. Mary from my apartment. There's really nothing to do here but my town is home to the Soo Locks! Those are all from a little 'museum' gift shop thing in the park around the Locks. The depth map of the Great Lakes make me think of @phelimint and his great Canadian coin set he was just showing off not too long ago! Next up is the Frontenac, a Canadian vessel we had the pleasure of watching as it dropped 21 feet from Lake Superior level to Lake Huron level! This I had to share with my sea loving Canadian @goldenarms as well as the rest of #teamcanada!
We walked around the grounds a bit but it was crazy how many people were around so I didn't feel comfortable whipping out my silver. Whatever, I'm a wuss.
I was pretty shaken up after seeing that creepy hanging angel/voodoo doll so we went across the street to play some mini golf!!! It was a heated game between me and my sister's boyfriend because I was the winner last time they were in town and he's waited a few months for a rematch. And the son of a bitch beat me by five or six strokes. I'm ashamed of myself, but I beat my sister and niece pretty fiercely so I'm okay with that!
While it may not be the nicest course ever it does have some fun hole so and you can see downbound ships right across te street! After my humiliating defeat we had some Taco Bell. Then I went back to work, the end.

looks like a great day. That angel is a bit strange I wonder why it's hanging there randomly. That map of the lakes is the image on the box for those coins actually.

Seeing that map just makes me want the coins all the more haha, with the price tag it had I'm surprised it didn't come with silver 😂

The map was for sale eh? It looks nice, but if your gonna spend that much get the silver version ;)

It was almost $200! 😂 yeah, the silver set makes way more sense!

I'd love to see those large vessels do that one day.

It really is crazy to watch! In the little viewing area they seem like Imperial starships coming slowly into the lock and then they drop so far it seems like more than 21 feet! I would definitely recommend it if you're ever in the area, they even have a schedule of what ships are going through which lock on the website 👍

Sweet. Maybe a family trip is in order when the punks are old enough.

I love that great Lakes map. I want it for my place.
I also love watching the ships coming down the canal and being raised or lowered. I first saw this in Welland as a kid.

I'm a sucker for anything with the Great Lakes haha! Isn't it a feat of engineering to lock those ships and move all that water with them! I'm always amazed by it!
