I am not sure why, it is probably the mood of CNY that got me wanting to join contests for fun lately. I have not entered any for the longest time! Not since my secondary school days.

So I chanced upon this Mandarin orange CNY contest organised by @myach and I thought that this is a great idea! However, I have this habit of upcycling whatever I have from the previous CNY for décor. Dust, wash, wipe, polish and then they are all as good as new! So what is upcycling? Upcycling is known as a creative reuse of transforming by-products or even waste materials into new products or use for better environmental value.

Well, times are bad and instead of buying new things every year, why not reuse what we have and style them accordingly?

So here’s the story of my entry.

I had this mini Christmas Tree from last December and was too lazy to put it away. By the way, I have this midget tree instead because currently we have a house cat that is extremely curious and playful, and having our usual big Christmas tree displayed at the living room will spell D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R!

我早些时候吃了一些桔子，认为我可以用皮肤做点什么。所以我把它在我可能找到的最厚的书里面烘干，把它们切成几何形状，并把它变成树的吊饰。

I was eating some oranges earlier and thought I could do something with the skin. So I dried it inside the thickest book I could possibly find, cut them to shapes and turn it as hanging décor for the tree.

不仅角落的气味令人耳目一新，它与树木形成鲜明对比，与红色常春藤果实（绿色 - 红色 - 橙色）融为一体！

Not only the corner smells refreshing, it looks contrast with the tree and blends well with the red ivy fruit (green – red – orange)!

Believe it or not, everything on this photo is Upcycled – except for the oranges in the bamboo strainer and two nian gaos given by my mom in law. And the highlight of this photo is that beautiful hand sewn “Happiness” (I think) in the frame. They were made by my hubby’s late grandma, and apparently it is older than my hubby’s age too! We decided to frame it up in appreciation of her delicate work.

和狗，我有一个动物缩影的集合，最初我只放在桌子上的黑色和白色的狗（纪念狗的一年），直到我10岁的她包括她的爪子巡逻狗 - 哦！

And the dogs, I have a collection of animals miniatures and initially I only put only the black & white dog on the table (to commemorate Dog’s year) until my 10 year old includes her Paw Patrol dog in it – oh well!

我们都期待着这一天
我们在哪里重新团聚
家人聚在一起，分享故事和笑声
朋友分享时刻和回忆旧时光
与旧的，与他们说的新的
但这都是关于习惯和目标的
以更好的计划开始新的一年
狗的一年是忠诚和友谊的象征
今年5月，我们都会获得丰富而有意义的友谊！
祝大家前进一年顺利。

Where we be reunited near and far
Family gets together, share stories and laughter
Friends share moments and reminisce old times
Out with the old, in with the new they say
But it’s all about the habits and goals
Starting the New Year with better plans
A Dog’s year is a symbol of loyalty and friendship
May this year we are all bestowed and blessed with opportunities in abundance and meaningful friendships!
