It's a definition thing.
Artists sometimes equate making money to making things not on their own terms.
Artists sometimes think when they make money, it's no longer art.
Artists sometimes feel that they need to suffer to make good art.
Growing up as the son of a writer, a creative person - I've experienced these feelings before. I've also thought about it A LOT over the years.
TLDR: Make art, make money, make a living. If you don't feel comfortable making money from your art, make money elsewhere.
To me, if you can keep making art, the higher the chance of you creating better art. If you can barely make ends meet, it's harder to find time to create.
Success doesn't end creativity, laziness and complacency does.
So go on, make art. Make money, it's okay.
