Chicken egg, to be specific.
Eggs win hands down as Malaysian favourite food. It is very versatile, good to be eaten just like that or to be incorporated into many, many dishes.

In fact, Malaysian consume 23 kg of eggs per capita per year. Assuming an average egg weighs roughly 60 grams, that’s roughly one egg per day per person! Malaysia had never fell out off the top 20 countries in term of egg consumption since 2000.
Myth and fact
Who came first? Chicken or Egg?Image Credit: Pixabay
Definitely egg. The first genetically-true chicken must be hatched from a genetically truechicken egg, laid by genetically-not-so-true parent. In other word, I don’t care that a chicken is the offspring of a peacock dad and crow mum, as long as the chicken is hatched, there must be an egg there first.
Egg is bad....?
Not entirely true. Yes chicken egg do contains animal fat and cholesterol, but given the serving size compared to an average adult metabolism rate, those cholesterol amount to only tiny numbers.
What’s my country egg color?
Brown.

Half Cook Egg 生熟蛋
Yes, you heard it right, it’s part raw part cooked egg, eaten with dash of soy sauce and pepper, over toast or breads. It’s a staple here in Malaysia, and you can practically order these in anywhere, ranging from Kopitiam (small chinese operated coffee shop), mamak stall and even fancy restaurant and cafes.Image Credit: Malaysian Chinese Kitchen
It’s super easy to make in home too, all you need is eggs (room temperature), boiling hot water and a container to submerge the egg fully in hot water, like a mug or saucepan. Submerge the egg in the hot water for around 6 ~ 8 minutes. Voila, half boiled eggs.
Roti Telur
Roti canai is one of the popular breakfast in Malaysia and Roti Telur is a popular choice for many. Roti Telur is a roti canai with an egg filling. Alternatively, some would order the Roti Telur Bawang, a roti canai with eggs and minced red onion. As always, the best way to eat roti is to FLOOD them with dal and curry, then finish with a cup of hot teh tarik. YUM~Image Credit: SSWF
Best of both World
Then somebody come up with the idea of combining the two dishes I mentioned above. Ladies and gentlemen, babies and elephants, allow me to introduce: Roti Canai Goyang . Goyang means wobbly, probably referring to the two eggs happily wobbling on top of the roti canai (Heavy breathing).Image Credit: Yelp
This is definitely a shared favourite around the world..almost every household cannot live without this product and it is used in sooo many ways.My favourite is egg chutney...which is egg cooked in a tamatoe based sauce/curry.
