What makes you happy? Being healthy or wealthy? It is undeniable that these elements are crucial in our life. Wealth can be defined as things people own and use to; produce goods and services and enjoy directly without using them in the process (Fran Baum, 2004) while healthy means to be physically and mentally in good condition.
Both of these elements are correlated to each other. People need money to pay for the medical bills and it is not a problem for a rich person. This problem occurs in people who are having financial problems. According to Fran Baum (2004), “Discussions about health inequalities and inequities are most commonly concerned with poverty and its impact on health. The gaze of public health researchers is firmly on who lives in poverty, where, and for how long. The wealthy escape this detailed scrutiny and very rarely feature in causal explanations about why health inequities persist or in policy prescriptions to do something to redress inequities.” It shows the importance of health and wealth to people.
From my point of view, health is the foundation to attain every other valuable resource. Without health, the capacity to create wealth is reduced. Someone who is facing a health issue or a chronic lack of access to the means for a healthy living makes it harder to build up a wealth of life experiences and tend to your spiritual and emotional health. When someone is only focusing to maintain a basic level of health, the less time they have to focus on thriving. Money can buy most things in life, but it cannot buy health. People agree that wealth may be able to buy treatments and medical care, but when it comes to the quality of life, the value of life, it is something we cannot buy with the money we have.
