Parking spots can be hard to find in NYC

While walking around NYC I often notice people driving around slowly clearly trying to find a free spot to park, and most time swith little success as street side parking in NYC is generally filled up so quickly and hence parking garages like the ones I will shar ein this post must do a good business.

I see many of these layered parking spots around, and I often wonder if these are more for longer-term parking daily or weeky, I dont imagine they could be used much for hourly parking with the effort of stacking up the cars on the various levels to get cars in and out, but I could well be wrong.

But I guess people who just want to park for a few minutes or even an hour or so may look for a street side parking spot to save paying the fees fopr parking Garages, this underground one for example charges $6.76 for up to half an hour, and this is reasonable compard to other parking garages in some parts of the city.

And finishing off showing even Police Cars have trouble finding spots, this is near a Station in the Upper Westside, and I suspect between shifts as the street was full with Police cars, and I saw a few pull up and the Police officers head into the station.

NOw this is not criticising the Police Officer for parking this way, they at least left space for people to walk by on the footpath, I have seen other cars parked like this but pulled right up to the wall or fence and completely blocking the footpath.

Very unique angle and perspective. Great job!!! Interesting shots

@ykdesign Thanks every now and again I try and get shots of less interesting subject and try to make them interesting

Thumbs Up!

I always thought it was funny to see the cars stacked on top of each other too. We have the underground style parking garages where I live, but in the city I don't know why you wouldn't just take public transportation. Driving around in Manhattan seems like a greater form of self torture to me :)

@bozz Ohh Yes I so do agree I drove through Manhattan once and that was more than enough for me Public transport is by far the best way to go

Is it that costly to park your car over such places? Happy weekend friend

@mcsamm Ohh yesi rem, ember reading somewhere a year or so ago that the average cost for a monthly parking spot in NYC was about $500

In Houston, $225,000 will buy a three-bedroom house with a game room, den, in-ground pool and hot tub.

In Manhattan, it will buy a parking space. No windows, no view. No walls.

@bimboola42 not sure that would even get you a parking spot in Manhattan LOL

but that's a good deal there, Maybe it should be an option I consider when I retire :)

It must be sheer hell to find parking in NYC! Been there once and decided it was just too large a city for me to really enjoy. Living there must be expensive and crazy...

@cecicastor I think I only ever drove through NYC once, I am happy taking the train into the city each month, the cost is about the same as monthly parking, but I save on fuel and the delays I often see on the highway from the train

That's crazy isn't it?! I've never seen the 'stacking' lots before, but the prices are the same in Vancouver, BC, Canada where I moved from. Doesn't seem right when parking for an hour is more than minimum wage!

Love the photos though! So cool :)

@lynncoyle1 yeah the prices are sure crazy, mind you I spend about the same amount for the train for a month, but I don't have to pay for gas on top of that as I would if I drove

Yes, I hear what you're saying. Public transit back home isn't much cheaper. It all makes me shake my head in disbelief though, especially now being away from it for a bit, it's given me some perspective!

@lynncoyle1 I can handle it hopefully only a couple of years or less till I retire

ahhh the light at the end of the tunnel @tattoodjay 😅

@lynncoyle1 Yeah I can see it just hope thats what it is and not a train coming my way LOL

hahaha @tattoodjay, good one 😎

I have spent several hours downtown trying to get a street side parking spot. It can be hell! Especially moving for the street sweepers 2 days a week.
Great post & captures... Steem on

@jcsteem I am glad I take the train in and avoid the parking hassles

OMG <liiicking the screeeeen !!!! puure heaven !!
hmm your messing up the post hUUUUnnYY!! you lost the cars.. O.o

I love the ones you have posted that elevates the cars like a huge vehicle vending machine. I respect the ingenuity of it.

The city should build better parking for the police. We should obey the laws we are sworn to enforce(I'm a cop)

@papacrusher I love those as well never saw the likes of that back home in NZ

I do agree the police should adhere to the laws, but as I said, in this case, I think the fault is not with the Police officer who parked there but the spaces available by that station not being enough and the city or Department should work on resolving that

as for you being a Cop Respect to you and your colleagues my friend👍
