Of course the article has the fake reactions that don't even come near to any real concerns that replacing human intimacy for mechanical sex will bring. Ya know like low birthrates aka population control, social disconnect (the psychological effects on human interaction) transhumanism, merging with machines. What about the many real women who rely on the sex trade for their income?
Woah woah woah Magdalena! Women who go into the sex trade do because for one the money, for two they like sex (typically), and for three it's not something you have to go to school for and pay thousands of dollars for. You are born with the equipment to do the job.
Of course there are women who hate it and feel objectified. Maybe they are just doing it to pay off the schooling they did take or whatever. It doesn't matter the reasons, it's the fact that this is an option for women who need an income, and just don't have the funds or whatever in order to do anything else. It's one of the oldest trades in the history of humanity.
What's going to happen to these women when more of these 'businesses' pop up?

Okay, so if sex trade is the only outlet for these men. What would you think is better for their "social disabilities" going to a real human being that you can pay to spend time with you. Sex happens, but maybe conversations happen too. Maybe it becomes a regular thing and the customer and sex worker develop a real rapport. Like with any business where you have a daily interaction with another human being. Or alternatively, you go to a robot and have your mechanical sex, maybe a preprogrammed verbal exchange.
Can't imagine it will be pushed back for very long and does it really affect them. As Magdalena stated " The dolls haven't been activated yet, they barely even have their wigs on" So I'm skeptical this issue with the city is really an issue at all. Just a publicity stunt to get the people of Houston talking about it.
