Why is it that we do have time to send a sms to our friends eager to share the recent gossip in town but we never have time to ask our moms if they need any help? Our generation the youth and so called hope of the world is it actually developing at all the forefronts? To me this brings up a big question mark, my mind actually freezes and I never really agree to the fact that we the youth are actually developing. Yes we do constantly update ourselves with all the technological changes, we also focus on thinking out of the box, bringing up new ideas and innovations but the matter of fact is that all our focus is on technological side of life. At this point comes another battle of views in my mind; yes it is a necessary evil to change with changing needs of time because life has always been regarded as the survival of the fittest but can we focus solely on the updating ourselves regularly without even considering the harmful impact that it is posing on our value systems, our social responsibilities and most importantly our family life.
We are a generation which never really saw a financial crisis, we were born in families and an environment where are parents actually provided us with every little thing that we needed. Ever since our birth we have been withdrawing from the emotional bank accounts of our parents but we never have actually tried to make a few, just a few deposits to their emotional bank accounts. Just a little quality time that we spend with our parents can be a sufficient emotional bank account deposit for them, but the issue is that we don’t have time to make these tiny efforts. On the other hand the question arises that what efforts is the youth indulging into to help and benefit the society, the answer is that we don’t have time to think about our society, why would we bother wasting our time thinking for the social welfare when we can have fun interacting at the social networking websites? Then comes into account the third perspective ‘our value systems’, the global world of today has minimized the distances across the borders but it actually has heavily increased the distances amongst people living under one roof or may be sitting in the same lounge. This capitalist theory of life has destroyed our value systems of collectivism and we the youth have actually become the so called practical generation with all the individualistic beliefs and ambitions.
If we still think that we are the hope of the world we have to take into consideration just one simple point that there is a big difference between machines, animals and humans. Machines can only respond to technology, they don’t have the sense of putting first things first, on the other hand the animals can only respond to their basic needs they cannot cope with change---- but we the humans can cope with the change in environment and technology yet keeping intact our value systems and retaining a concern for the social welfare and family life. We the youth have to assure that we don’t turn into machines because our purpose of life is much much much more than that and only then can we the youth be actually called the hope of the world.
