The reporting of incidents by users is one of the key features of Waze and, being Waze part of Google, it was also implemented on Google Maps at the end of 2018. According to AndroidPolice the function was updated on the latest version of Google Maps for Android and now also implements the possibility of reporting traffic delays.
Google Maps, reporting slowdowns in incoming traffic
Until now, the user could only report accidents and speed cameras, but there was no specific possibility to report problems in a road in real time . The service already makes use of a collection of data from different sources to report possible slowdowns, however before changing the status of a specific road it needs to collect a series of data and a few minutes: those who are already in that direction may not receive the change of direction on time and find yourself invariably bottled up in the slowed-down street.
The real-time reporting of slowdowns by users could solve this problem, with Google that can also take advantage of "in the field" reports to change the road conditions of the individual routes. The source also points out that the function should be distributed in these days on Android, first on devices configured with the English language, then - we do not know when, however - on all the others. We also do not know when the direct reporting of slowdowns will also arrive on iOS.
Specifically, the direct reporting arrived on Google Maps last December , after several rumors about the APK teardown that showed their presence in the code. There is however to say that the feature is not yet available on all compatible clients, so it is not clear how the roll-out will be dealt with this time and how extensive the distribution work will be as soon as it is released on the first clients.
