Nintendo Announces It's Going To Stop Selling Nintendo Classic

in technology •  8 years ago

Many fans of Nintendo were baffled recently when the company announced that they were planning to stop sales of the Nintendo Classic in North America.

The move is rather surprising seeing as the Nintendo original is a cult classic and when folks found out that they were bringing it back, it fueled a lot of attention online with millions of people looking to get back into playing the system or try it out for the first time.

The Nintendo Classic system launched in November and it came bundled with dozens of games. Many retailers found that their shipments would quickly sell out as soon as they would receive them, making it difficult for consumers to get their hands on one.

It's estimated that they sold roughly 1.5 million Nintendo classic consoles, going for about $60 each.

This is the last month that North American outlets are going to receive shipments of the game system. And or those who still want to get their hands on one, they might struggle trying to find some availability.

Social media has reacted swiftly to the news, with many expressing their discontent with the decision to stop selling the system. One of the reasons for the move some have suggested, might be because Nintendo doesn't want to draw attention away from their other console Switch.

Other reasons that have been suggested are piracy concerns, profit concerns, and licensing issues.
