My Own Search Engine

As I wait for the keyboard for my tablet to arrive, I have other tasks I can complete. One was to try and get the Searx metasearch engine up and running on my Raspberry Pi.

I actually began by backing up the card that acts as the device's storage. If I managed to foul up the OS, I could format the card, copy the backup onto it, and, hopefully, pick up where I had left off. With this done I proceeded to go through the directions detailed on NullByte.

The updates to the OS itself went well, but getting some of the additional packages proved a bit more of a challenge. A lot of cutting and pasting was involved and a lot of having to go back a few steps. But eventually, I got it up and running!

I'm proud of myself for getting this done. Searching the internet with a reasonable degree of privacy is of importance to members of #theresistance. An activist may be trolling the alt-right, doxxing a fasc or just looking for some books or videos.

I still have a little more work to do, I need to turn the startup of the tool into a script and maybe work on hardening the system itself a bit more.
