Hey, did y'all see Tesla's new truck? He just unveiled it a few days ago. The thing doesn't look like a pickup truck though:
Looks more like a Delorean. It even has a stainless steel body like a Delorean. I have mixed reactions. I think it looks kinda cool as a vehicle, but kinda goofy as a pickup.
Some of the stats are impressive though. A maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload of 3,500 pounds. That's a big payload. That dwarfs the Ford F-150's, that's more like the F-350.
It's got lots of storage because the batteries are under the floorboards. The front of the truck has a storage compartment too.
For the cheapest model which starts at $39,900, the 0 to 60MPH time is 6.5 seconds but for the top range models which start at $70,000, the 0 to 60 time is 2.9 seconds!
The cheaper model batteries last for 200 miles, the most expensive model lasts for 500 miles before recharging. Test models had a ramp type of tailgate but it's unclear if that will happen when production starts.
The body is very strong because it's one piece:
It's tough too, they said it's "bullet resistant," at least up to 9mm size bullets.
The windows are supposed to be unbreakable but on the night he unveiled this thing one of their people threw steel balls at them and they shattered. lol.. so that was an epic fail but he didn't seem too embarrassed. He just said that needs work.

They liked it. About the only thing I like is the tires.
I tell ya what though, this thing is so short that it'll never go over in redneck country, we like our pickups big and tall!
You wouldn't be able to see squat in this new Tesla, might as well be drivin a clown car. But I'm sure in California and Canada it will sell just fine!

You have some time to decide, it's gonna be at least a couple years for this to hit the dealerships but they're taking orders now! Yeah, they said they already have 203,000 pre-market orders.
Just expect it to be a heck of a lot more expensive by the time they actually put them on the street!

That thing is hideous. Impressive stats though. I'd like to see a little more curves and a longer bed, I don't think anyone will be taking that thing to the job site.

I would pump that somnabeech. Add a 6" kit to the rear to accommodate the lack of view, paint it mirror polish chrome and mirror tint the windows? Shoot, be crazy pimpin man!

lol! Now THAT might look like something then sir enginewitty. The bed needs to be bigger for a working truck though, maybe they'll come out with different sizes. If this one sells they'll probably come up with a much larger version because I'd hate to show up to a work site with this thing. lol.

Howdy deirdyweirdy! I was going to mention that it had no mirrors but then I forgot to! It makes it look even stranger without them and I have no idea why it has none. Maybe they'll have mirrors when it finally hits the production floor.

It's one ugly motherfluffer. 😂 I am a boere chick from SA and like you I much rater prefer this one although you guys make them a tad bigger than we can find in sa but I can say I won't be driving one of those ugly pickups soon.. Thank you for sharing. I like reading car stats so it was really interesting.

lol..very good dkkarolien and we have the same tastes in trucks! I think they will never break into the big three brands with this thing, which is what their goal is. It looks cheap doesn't it? Well it wasn't a failure because they had 203,000 pre sale orders come in for it. It won't actually be produced for another 2 years so we won't know until then how well it does.
But my guess is that Singaporeans will snatch these things up like crazy. I heard they have more money than brains over there but I don't know, that's just what I heard.

Howdy sir michealb! I agree, I can see it as a little city vehicle but not a full sized work truck like they are saying it will compete against. They want to break in and take business from Ford, Chevy and Chrysler truck sales but I think they're going to have to do better than this. Maybe if this was a massive 50% bigger!

I saw that video too where the ball bearing busted the windows, lol. It's certainly a space age looking vehicle. As to the suspension, it can be automatically raised or lowered and it went up pretty darn high for that over the road stuff. Not on my Christmas list though, lol.
