I deleted my Twitter account

happy

I kept waiting for the world to end after I did it, and the feeling lasted for several days. I knew that deleting my Twitter account was the right thing to do, but it had a hold over me like a bad break up.

When I first signed up for the social network, I was optimistic about its potential. And in many ways, I still think that I am, but as a company it is making all of the wrong moves to improve the user experience.

I honestly think that finding Steemit was a massive part of what helped me make the break. Becoming part of a community trying to build something better gave me the strength to leave.

Since shutting down my account over two weeks ago, which I wrote about on Facebook here, I've had the cognitive and emotional space to really think about and take action in improving my own life. Leaving Twitter after 9 years on that platform has been the best thing I could have done. Since I had a verified profile, I have the option of reactivating my account in 12 months, but I love my life without it so much I'm not sure I will go back.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Thank you for reading.

I am extremely happy for you to have left twitter. I was on there for about two days and decided it was utter nonsensical mumbo jumbo creating a bubble around me and my believes instead of opening a world of opinions and opportunities. So, yeah, good on ya!

Thanks! Yeah, it's demise really saddens me. I used to turn to it as a tool to open my mind to new perspectives. I loved it because I could connect with people from all around the world. I think part of the problem is that the design can't scale. I stream of rapid-fire opinions works well in the early stages, but the more people you follow, the more disorienting and destabilizing the experience becomes.

I've actually retreated back to more instant messaging and email. In those tools, it's much easier to manage the flow of information coming my way.
