With Technology a Constant, Baker & Hostetler Unit Aims to Make Sense Of Options

Baker & Hostetler proved itself a pioneer in the use of technology in 2016, when it became the first law firm to announce it had licensed the artificial intelligence product developed by ROSS Intelligence, powered by IBM's Watson.

Technology has come a long way since the 1990s. If you're ever feeling nostalgic about the tech from that era, this is what you should watch.
Pagers, beepers, bulky computers, simple television sets, and cassette tapes are some of the items 1990s fans treasure. People who grew up in that decade, or wish they did, love to reminisce about the technology that was in circulation at the time. Television and film have captured some of the best '90s devices of all.

Whether it's a sitcom character typing papers on a computer for the first time or a movie plot revolving around early Internet communications, the characters of the 1990s know how to make the most of new technological innovations. Stream these movies and shows for a grand blast from the past.

10Full House (Hulu)
Full House (1987–1995) is a great place to start for some 1990s technology. Once the show leaves the 1980s behind, DJ eventually gets her very own computer, and so does Jesse! There are also plenty of uses of audiocassette tapes and videos.
The Tanners aren't too obsessed with any of the latest and greatest fads, and they keep a pretty small television set that they only watch here and there. They're generally too busy with family time, but Michelle still manages to toddle downstairs for a late-night viewing of Arsenio.
9Smart House (Disney+)
Smart House is a 1999 Disney Channel Original Movie starring Ryan Merriman as Ben Cooper. Ben cooks and cleans all the time in effort to keep his dad from dating after his mom dies. Ben wins a contest for a smart house designed by a local artificial intelligence genius named Sara. The Coopers love having the home's AI, PAT (Personal Applied Technology), do everything for them.

Ben worries that his dad and Sara are getting serious, so he tampers with PAT's settings to try to make her more motherly, which clearly backfires. Viewers get a glimpse of the control room, a '90s conception of futuristic technology. One of the best parts of the movie for '90s fans is when Ben and his dad have a conversation about how the phone and the Internet can't be used at the same time. It's amazing how much technology this film actually predicted.
8Smart Guy (Disney+)
Smart Guy (1997–1999) is a fantastic choice on Disney+, and its main character is a boy genius named T.J. Henderson (played by Tahj Mowry). T.J. leaves elementary school behind for the challenge of high school.

Along with his older siblings, Marcus and Yvette, and his neighbor, Mo, T.J. uses plenty of 1990s technology. One example is season two's "Working Guy," where T.J. works in a high-profile office for a school career project. He gets sucked into the workplace culture of long, thankless hours. The boss, whom T.J. meets in a very '90s-looking video call, takes advantage of T.J.'s abilities. This episode is also where T.J. first learns what a DVD is.
7Friends (HBO Max)
Friends (1994–2004) is one of the most obvious choices for a show including '90s tech. Joey, Chandler, Phoebe, Rachel, Ross, and Monica spend most of their time face to face. They aren't perfect, but it's nice to see that they aren't buried in smartphones, since smartphones didn't exist yet.
It's also hilarious to remember the computer moments on the show, like Phoebe's lack of a computer (pictured above) and Chandler's annoying computer obsession.
6Blank Check (Disney+)
Blank Check (1994) is a somewhat questionable kids' movie, but it is on Disney+, nonetheless. The movie's protagonist is Preston Waters, a young boy who feels like he's got the short end of the stick. Preston's brothers are old enough to earn money with summer jobs, but Preston is stuck with a lousy $11 birthday check.
After he goes to the bank to deposit the money, Preston leaves on his bike and is hit by a car. The driver gives the boy a blank check, which he makes out for one million dollars. He uses his computer to chart his goals, but Preston gets the ultimate '90s tech set-up when he buys himself a house to play in all day.
5So Weird (Disney+)
So Weird (1999–2001) certainly isn't one of the funniest sitcoms on Disney+. In fact, it's one of the only dramas the network has done.
The show is also one of the first to incorporate the Internet in its core plot throughout episodes. Fiona (Fi) is a teen interested in all things paranormal. She runs her own website where she writes about the unusual experiences she has.
4The Net (Hulu)
The Net (1995) is a computer programming thriller starring Sandra Bullock. The film focuses on her character, Angela, seeing her colleagues start to die after she takes on a freelance job in programming.
The suspenseful movie pulls Angela into a dangerous romance and leads her to identity erasure and potential death. It's full of '90s computers, though!
3The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air (HBO Max)
The Banks family on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air certainly has the resources to enjoy new technologies of the day. Carlton is a great example, with his laptop that he uses to study.
Will also carries around a pretty epic boom box. It's safe to say that these '90s kids had all the right gadgets for a fun time.
2Home Alone 1 & 2 (Disney+)
The Home Alone movies are prime opportunities to revisit 1990s electronics, especially the second movie. The first offers a glimpse of the reality of using a public phone at the airport during that time. The second expands on the many tools for communication, and Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) gets creative by using the then-popular Talkboy recorder to disguise his voice and fool the adults at The Plaza Hotel.

These early-'90s movies are timeless in a way, but they still give viewers a taste of a more simplistic technological existence.
1You've Got Mail (HBO Max)
You've Got Mail (1998) is the ultimate Internet-inspired film. Kathleen (Meg Ryan) and Joe (Tom Hanks) hit it off on AOL and start communicating online all the time.
They sit and wait eagerly for America Online to sign on and announce, "You've got mail." This digital Meg Ryan romance was ahead of its time, even though it allows Joe to deceive Kathleen before they ultimately fall in love and become an item.
