Beacons enlightening and enriching your Travel

Beacons use iBeacon technology (developed by Apple) which allows Mobile Apps to understand their position on a micro-local scale, and deliver hyper-contextual content/relevant messages based on users location using Bluetooth Low Energy technology.

BLE communication uses small packets of data using radio waves through beacons or a BLE enabled device. While the application of Beacons is universal and can be used across industries lets take some use cases for the travel industry

Terminals or in Transit:- What happens when you are waiting for your next connection or are waiting for a flight at the terminal. Using Beacons you can get contextual push notifications thus increasing opportunities for the advertisers to maximize their chances for a sale

Communicating Gate changes or Flight Updates:- Beacons can also be very friendly to communicate with customers when Gate changes happen for a flight or their is a change in the status of a flight.

Up-selling Ancillaries- Imagine arriving an airport and looking for a taxi. Beacons can provide you opportunities to market additional services to your customers

Personalization:- Enrich your customers by customizing what might be an interest to them by organizing their entertainment needs (inflight or in the car) when they take up their travel.

Navigation- Renting a car and lost to find the counter, the Beacon device can guide you and provide you a step by step direction to reach the counter, you can also build an interactive experience and also address any language barriers by empowering the customers.

BLE is 60-80% cheaper than the traditional Bluetooth device and looks very promising as it's very efficient as well. Most Millennials carry smartphones and using a customers location, specific targeted offerings can be provided to increase companies ways to engage and provide differentiated service offerings.
