Apple events are almost always surrounded by much hype and excitement, especially this time of the year when they release the latest iPhones and other updates to their popular products.
This year too, people had been waiting with bated breath for the latest and greatest iPhones, iPads, Macbook, Apple Watches with an added hope of that 'one more thing' the company has brought back in fashion in the recent times.
Though we didn't get to see any new iPads, rumoured to go towards the iPhone X like design language, or any Macbook updates, or any 'one more thing' surprise at the end, we did get a brand new and highly impressive Apple Watch series 4 along with three new iPhones.
Barring the adoption of the all screen technology for all the iPhones this year, the updates seem more like casual spec bumps but what I personally found more interesting watch the new Apple Watch.
iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone XR
Last year, Apple kickstarted a whole new vision for its iPhones which is, basically a glass slab with full frontal display. This year was an evolution and further refinement of that vision, as all three iPhones now come with an all-display front. iPhone Xs and Xs Max get a 5.8 inch and 6.5 inch OLED display while the iPhone XR gets a 6.1 inch LCD display.
Apart from that, the most pronounced update was the A12 microprocessor which apple says is the smartest and most powerful chip in a smartphone. This is particularly true as Apple has shown every year that its A-series microprocessors beat everyone by an order of magnitude.
There were some pretty cool updates to the cameras too particularly focusing on the depth effects and overall software enhancements. The iPhone XR gets a single camera system only and is yet able to have all the features of the dual cameras in the Xs and Xs Max.
The battery life gets a much wanted improvement as this year's iPhones will last anywhere from 60 minutes to 90 minutes longer than before. The Xs and Xs Max come in the usual gold, space gray and silver finish while the XR gets red, yellow, white, coral, black and blue finish making it a pretty colorful lineup.
As far as changes go, that's pretty much it, making it more of an evolutionary release, which is fair, considering this new design was launched only last year. The Xs and Xs Max start from $999 and $1099 respectively while the XR starts from $749.
Apple Watch Series 4
The Apple Watch sees its fourth generation this year and finally gets a little design refresh. The watch is now more rounded and thinner than before and goes edge-to-edge display pretty much like the iPhone X making it look just gorgeous. The watch now comes with a 40mm and a 44mm screens.
The microprocessor powering this year's watch is the S4 which goes 64-bit for the first time and is twice as fast as previous generations. The watch also gets next gen accelerometer and gyroscope that can sample data 8 times faster allowing for fall-detection.
One of the most impressive updates this year was a trio of heart features. The Apple Watch can now detect low heart rates, atrial fibrillation and now you can also take an ECG right on your wrist. The battery life remains the same in this year's update.
You can get a series 4 starting from $399 for the GPS version and the cellular version can be had starting from $499.
