Google is in time to produce a 49-qbit chip and achieve quantum supremacy by the end of 2017. This is a critical step on the way to functional quantum computers that can reach problems far beyond the capabilities of traditional systems.
Therefore, it is already a fact
Google is retaining its edge in the world of quantum computing. Its 20-qbit processor is currently in testing, and the company appears to be in time to have its 49-qbit working chip ready by the end of 2017 as promised. Until it began testing the 20-bit chip, Google's most powerful quantum chip was the 9-quit project starting in 2015.

As someone who worked on quantum nano-devices last year and in the past: no.
Just four you post because I'll do a series involving quantum field theory on the math board :)
