I've used Linux as my main OS at home for years. It just does what I need. The trend is for Windows to stop you doing certain things and I like my freedom. Most of my PC use these days is in a browser and Chrome runs as well on Linux as anything. Most hardware I plug in just works.
I've not had a need for Windows, but my son wanted it for some school work and games, so I bought Win10. Installing it took a while due to issues with boot drives. I have to say I'm not too impressed by it. I use Win7 at work. I don't think either has much advantage over Linux unless you need specific apps that won't work on Linux. Linux supports a fair few games via Steam these days.
The good thing is that we have a choice. I'm sure Microsoft would prefer that we didn't.
