Underwater cities in 10 years

In the face of threats related to climate change, sea level rise, earthquakes and tsunamis, the designers think about how our lives will look in the cities of the future. Most architects believe that the best solution will be to build cities floating on or floating on the water.

One of the companies that is seriously considering the construction of the first underwater city is Shimizu Corporation. The Japanese have even designed such an object. It is based on a spiral model. The construction of Ocean Spiral City, because it was called the city, will be 15 kilometers long, 500 meters wide and will become a home for over 5,000 people.

The main element of the inhabitants' life will be underwater mining, and more precisely extraction of natural resources. A part of the metropolis will protrude above the water, but only if favorable weather conditions are present. The object is to be fully self-sufficient, as wind turbines and a system for acquiring energy from sea tides will be installed at its top.

Atlantis will be created within 15 years and will also be a research center where specialists will be able to carry out extremely important measurements of the seabed and study of the local life there. On board the underwater city there will also be hotels for tourists, shops and entertainment venues.

The construction cost of the first facility of this type is estimated at USD 25 billion. The Japanese idea is not at all surprising, although it is truly cosmic. We must remember that Japan is an island country, active volcanically and seismically, so in the future there may be various catastrophes, which must be protected from now on.
