OMR stands for Optical Mark Recognition or Reader. OMR is a special scanning device that can read carefully placed marks on specially designed documents. In other words, OMR is the process of capturing human-marked data from document forms such as surveys and tests.
It is accomplished by using a hardware device that detects a reflection or limited light transmittance on or through a piece of paper.
Uses of OMR:
OMR device is used to read questionnaires, multiple-choice examination paper and many other types of the form where response are registered in the form of lines or shaded areas.
This technology is used for applications in which large numbers of hand-filled forms need to be processed quickly and with great accuracies, such as surveys, reply cards, questionnaires, and ballots.
A common OMR application is the use of "bubble sheets" for multiple-choice tests used by schools or colleges.
