Portlandia.... Over the Top, But Growing On Me

Good evening, Steemians!

I just wanted to give a short review of a show I started watching on Netflix: Portlandia.

I had heard of the show before, but because we just got Netflix last month, I'd never seen it. I am only on the 2nd season right now, but thought it would be interesting to do a short review of what I've seen so far, and maybe get some feedback from you guys (maybe you could tell me if it gets better or worse from here on out.)

From what I've seen thus far, it's a very quirky show about a guy (Fred Armisen, most notably from SNL) and a girl (Carrie Brownstein, a rock n' roll guitarist) doing different sketches, all of which are located in or around Portland. There are funny stereotypes, in which I feel the characters make a great deal of fun of left-wing culture and liberalism. There are some recurring sketches which just had me dying.

My wife, on the other hand, seems to think it's stupid, and doesn't understand the humor (I can understand that). For me, I think it's funnier because I grew up watching Armisen on SNL and so I get his slapstick humor. Many scenes involve witty video editing and Armisen repeating himself multiple times, which he pulls off nicely.

From what I've seen, the second season looks like it's better than the first (probably better budget?) though the first season was pretty funny.

The characters go to great lengths to make the show funny, often wearing costumes to make it look like they are different actors, but most sketches involve the both of them.

It seems like they've brought other high profile "celebrities" in for the second season to do skits with them, which is good, because you don't usually see these people doing this type of comedy.

I'm curious, has anyone else seen this show? Do/did you like it? Does it get better or worse from the 2nd season on?

Thanks for stopping by guys, I will leave you with Rolling Stone magazine's "15 Best Portlandia Sketches" (with video) so you can see what the show is all about.
