10 Random Things about Jaimie's Behind the Scenes Person - Dashaina's Introduction

in tenrandomthings •  6 years ago

Hi all!

I'm Dashaina, the behind the scenes person for Jaimie's steem blog and am usually the one writing posts, following others, commenting or replying to comments. I thought it might be a good time to finally introduce myself! I couldn't think of how to do that until perusing through my feed and stumbling on this #tenrandomthings challenge. I don't really know anyone who would nominate me... so I thought I'd just nominate myself and use the challenge as my intro writing prompt!

Alright let's see... This challenge was started by @twodorks and @anutu. Great idea! So fun!

This challenge doesn't have to do anything with Steemit. Each person who decides to do the challenge will have to say at least 10 facts about yourself! Pretty easy right?! After that you need to ask one question and you have to tag that person to play along! Don't forget to use the hashtag #tenrandomthings so we can find your post!

Now that's all done.... on with the show!

First being behind the scenes most of the time, you may be interested in putting a face with a name... or maybe not.. but here's one anyway...

1. I am adept at being a small human's bed.

See above picture for more visual detail.... see random fact #5 for more word detail.

2. I'm an introvert sometimes, except when I not.

I can happily spend the day not saying anything to anyone and just milling about doing my thang... except when we have visitors and I'm super nervous and excited to have people visit and then you can't shut me up... and I'm self conscious of it.. which makes me talk more! Ha!

3. I am afraid of the dark.

... and water... and being abandoned.... and roaches... and a long time ago ketchup and pickles... or maybe I just didn't like them... though I wouldn't even touch them. Hmmm... maybe I should psychoanalysis that.....

4. I did not like chocolate.

For most of my life, with the exception of with peanut butter cups and Andy's mints, I did not like chocolate. Since moving to Panama and learning how to make it.. it's spectacular!

5. I was not having kids!

Growing up I was not the girl who daydreamed about getting married and having babies... like literally was the anti kids/marriage kinda gal. Many years later and I just gave birth to my third planned child, our first boy! and I am so happy I decided to become a parent! I love my children and watching them become who they will become... it's an amazing experience. I could go on and on about my kiddos! They definitely make life better.

6. I learned to speak Spanish here.

I grew up in an area where English and Spanish were the main language, but never learned to speak Spanish, only how to understand it... by the time I left... Spanish was taking over. But it wasn't until we moved to Panama, that I really learned to speak it out loud.

7. I'm "petite".

... that's basically a polite way of saying short. People seem surprised when they meet me sometimes, they're like.. "I thought you were much taller by your pictures".. hahaha.

8. I am a stay at home lady.

Mom, maid, laundress, chef, teacher, dishwasher, referee... all these titles and more can be had for the low low price of popping out just one kid..... then another and another... the fun never ends! I do love my job! Hee hee.

9. I'm not a dog OR cat person.

I was a duck person until very recently...then my ducks started eating my plants... then I fenced off the plants... and they still were eating the leaves they could reach with their necks extended... so more fencing and blocking.... and then my ducks dissappeared! I hope a raccoon didn't get them. But I fear the worst at this point. I am sad about my missing ducks. :(

10. I live on my very own private island.

Ever since I can remember, I've wanted to be able to do that... and 4 years ago it became a reality!!

So that's it... I sort of nominated myself... after reading Penderis 's post , which I thought was pretty funny....so thanks @penderis.

Now to nominate some peeps....

Jaimie Mantzel aka THE Adventure Builder!
@carolkean
@vladivostok
@david777111
@professorbromide
@audreybits

Bonus question for my nominees: If you could take only 3 items with you to a deserted island, which you'd be stranded on, what would you take?

Awesome getting to learn more from your viewpoint Dashaina! Love y'alls story and are a huge inspiration for me personally pushing into the future. I'm totally on your level with introversion, work the same way. Love being around people I jive with and could talk for hours, otherwise I usually just ask a ton of questions.

Thanks so much @makinstuff! I almost threw your name into the nomination bag.... hmmm maybe I should! Yep... that's it... I nominate you for the challenge too @makinstuff! Muahahahahah

I think I might have beaten you to it. @makinstuff is tagged in my response. We can share the credit if his #tenrandomthings post sends STEEM to the Moon.

yes!! I'm so glad you nominated him @professorbromide! hahaha the moon.

building up a bunch of excitement about your family on discord, be patient and we will do some cool stuff. been talking to some people about you and I am working on it. really like you two and can't wait to talk to Jaime. It's gonna happen :)

Wow, that was interesting! What do you mean by, having a private island? Did you buy whole island or just a piece of land?

they have their own island, stranded by choice. so damn cool!!

as @vladivostok said in his comment.. and we have one for each of us. J has the biggest one of course. ;) But we also have two across the canal from me that we will give our girls when they're older... and there is a smaller one right next to J's that could be the baby's when he is old enough... so 5 in total. @route-m-d

Damn that's a lot! Was it expensive? We know panama isn't the cheapest country. We're just curious, because we want to settle down somewhere in Central America.

we spent a year building relationships with the locals and got local pricing and sometimes better. Yes cheap! Come on out for a visit, we love the area we're in.

Hola Sparkling Mother, I'm glad you're learning Spanish. I learned some in Oregon and learned Vietnamese when I was teaching English in Vietnam. I'm glad you became a mother. My mother homeschooled me and my siblings. Mothers are the best. I'm upvoting you because you encourage me. Thanks. I'm Oatmeal. Take care.

Thanks so much for such a sparkling message of encouragement and sparkliness! I too, am glad I learned to speak Spanish and had babies! Babies are super and so are the bigger humans they become. Nice to meet you Oatmeal. I actually just had some for after dinner late night snack... cold. Yum!

Awesome and I hope I have babies someday.

Its really Nice to meet you ! And behind the scenes is now in front of the cam fellow steemian

feels really strange to be on camera even for an extrovert, I guess that's my introverted side. Glad to be stepping out of my comfort zone, this platform has a way of forcing this upon us in so many ways, I think it's a really good thing :)

Aww. thanks so much! I do have many videos on my channel in front of the camera. It didn't bother me until after having kids really.....long story....ha! Now I just run J's steemit blog and my own website blog occasionally. Thank you for the welcome!! :)

This is so interesting, thank you so much for sharing this with us. I love peanut butter cups so much!!! I miss them so dearly here at our tiny tiny island ... no peanut butter cups .... ughhh....

Have a most beautiful Friday coming up!

Island? Tell me more! We love fellow island dwellers! And now I can make my own peanut butter cups! Delicious!

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

WOWOWOWOW, you make your own peanut butter cups? I would dearly learn more about that!

Hey, fellow islanders! YEP! So cool! Actually, it's a small archipelago and we are on the main island but think about moving to the smallest one :) Malta.

I'll have to do a post about it. Very easy. I use the raw cacao ground into a liquid mass.. like peanut butter consistency. And honey and peanut butter. Next time I make some I'll be sure to document it. Still... an island! So fun. We love our islands for sure!

Got flooded here, sorry for the late reply. Oh, that would be so wonderful, I would love to learn from you how to make my own peanut butter cups, yum yum <3

Nice to see the person behind the blog, I wasn't sure if the builder was doing that DIY stuff as well as blogging.

Hmm 3 items to take on an island.. certainly my survivor multi-tool, a large stainless steel pot and a hammer with an ax blade on the other side.

yes! for the multi tool! And the other too items for sure! I'm pretty sure J's response would be multi tool and his machete with a saw on one edge.....so very similar!

I would say the machete with saw, a stainless steel pot and a tarp.
