Some funny Engrish found on a menu

Thailand is absolutely loaded with English mistakes and most of them are slight so that you still understand what is trying to be said even though it is spelled wrong or uses the wrong words. Sometimes though, the mistake is so bad that it just boggles the mind as to how they came to the conclusion that this was what they were going to print.

Now I think, but am not entirely sure, that someone was using some sort of spell-checker in order to make sure that the menu made sense but as anyone who has ever used auto-correct knows, the computer is often wrong and in this case that is definitely what happened.

The dish in the picture is something called "Larb" and the Thai script says "Larb Ta-lay" which just means seafood "larb." I don't know what the English translation of "larb" would be either but it is a somewhat spicy salad that has a bunch of citrus in it as well. It's really good and you should definitely try it if you get the chance. This is one of many dishes from Isaan, a large part of Thailand's north-east area that is known for making delicious dishes with cheap and readily available ingredients.

I think it is funny that they put the spell checker to task and the thing it came up with was "Labrador." I wonder if people out there think that they are serving dog as it is my understanding that dog is in fact consumed in some places in this part of the world. I have never seen it for sale and I am pretty sure that it is illegal to sell dog meat in Thailand.

This one is a pretty bad mistake but the number one mistake that I have seen since moving here is still the Thai massage parlor whose sign said "Thai Massacre."
