We used to pick ndumbes on the south coast, but only with supervision. We also grilled them like steak. I wouldn't advocate eating them until you get a good ID.

When I was a kid I threw anything I could find at my brother, I guess we had a love hate relationship. I know some mushrooms are possibly lethal even if you just touch it (I think they meant you touch it and then put your finger in your mouth afterwards). So I probably would take a chance either.

I like how you remember your love/hate for your brother so many relationships are like that. The opposite of love is not hate it is apathy. We had 9 lives as children the fact that we survived our siblings and that they survived us is a miracle. Mushrooms can be lethal so pick and choose your mushrooms and battles wisely... we cannot pick our brothers and sisters but we can choose to love and hate them. You are absolutely correct. I never thought of apathy being the opposite of love but I see your point. I agree that we don't have a choice on siblings, but we have the control on how we relate to them. I am glad to hear you were blessed with brothers / sisters that you get along well with.
