Yup. I never understood the thinking of building in danger zones like that and then calling it "prime real estate" and charging a fortune to live on those "cute barrier islands". I thought it was crazy living on the Gulf side of Florida but hubby and I did some research of the different areas. Sure, we get hit with an occasional hurricane but we picked an area that's 200 feet above sea level and the rooted mature trees tells me the area has survived.

In the mid sixties a hurricane hit near Corpus Christi...it washed part of the barrier island away...where there used to be one island ...there is now two....it happened once...it can happen again.

I went down there a few times to visit a friend who lives outside of Humble. I was surprised to see how flat it is down there. The slightest downpour will cause roads and houses to be flooded. I can only imagine what will happen if this hurricane hits.
