Thursday Green Anole

in thursdaygreen •  6 years ago

I'm posting these images of a Green Anole for #ThursdayGreen, the fourth day and color in the #ColorChallenge day of the week rainbow photography challenge masterminded by @kalemandra. This colorful lizard, a native of the southeastern United States, was out of place in Southern California and even more out of place where I took these pictures...the Africa Rocks area of the San Diego Zoo. We eventually went to the reptile house at the zoo, and they don't have an Anole exhibit, so it's unlikely he escaped. How he got to the San Diego Zoo is definitely a mystery. To be honest though, he was one of the most exciting things we saw at the zoo. Don't get me wrong, the San Diego Zoo is a world class zoo. It's just that my granddaughter is a budding herpetologist and was extremely excited to see this guy on the loose. She gave everyone a run down on Anoles. It really made her day, which was nice because it was her birthday :-)

He is certainly cute. Perhaps he escaped from the reptile house.

That's what we thought at first, but they didn't have any anole exhibit there. My granddaughter thinks he was somebody's pet and they set him free.

What a cool and colorful one, and a mystery as to why he was there, How cool to see it with your granddaughter with her knowledge of them

Absolutely! My granddaughter has a Uromastyx at home named Cab. Too bad the Anole wouldn't get along with him.

No I think that little one would not fear well with her big one ( and I will admit till I checked your link I had no clue what type t was )

Ha ha. I have to admit that I can never easily remember how to say or spell the type of lizard she has, so I just call him Cab. I think he's named for a skateboarder BTW.

I think the Skateboarder is Steve Caballero, I am not a skateboarder myself but I recently started to use Vans shoes sometimes and remember seeing his name on there site one day :)

I’m positive you’re right.
