TIL That Romanian Might Be The Most Creative Language On Earth - 11 Highly Expressive Romanian Sayings

Well, I didn’t learn that today, but quite long ago. Yet I still find it extremely funny.

I know a few languages (English, French, Russian, a bit of Italian and Spanish) but Romanian is probably the most expressive of all. It’s probably because it’s my native language, but in all honesty, I have yet to find elsewhere the sheer amount of creativity you get from Romanian words, especially when you want to express something like frustration or anger.

What follows is a list of actual Romanian sayings, not all being related to swearing directly, but all of them quite funny. Enjoy!

1. To leave without a word: Going with the dick in the satellite. (în p^@ă cu satelitul)

2. Quitting: “To stick his feet in” (își bagă picioarele)

3. Taking a nap: “To pull a chicken of sleep” (a trage un pui de somn)

4. To be wrecked, wasted, totally confused: “To be cabbage” (varză)

5. Something is really nice: “It’s concrete” (beton)

6. Being lazy: "rubbing the mint" (a freca menta)

7. Being really concerned: “to have a carrot in his ass” (a avea un morcov în fund)

8. Swearing (moderately bad): "fuck your mother’s onion" (tu-ți ceapa mă-ti)

9. Swearing (like really bad): "fuck your mother’s dead people" (tu-ți morții mă-ti)

10. Driving someone nuts: "taking him out of his watermelons" (a scoate pe cineva din pepeni)

11. Conning / being conned: "pierce someone / being pierced with a spike" (a tras / și-a luat o țeapă)
