The Dog with No Bark!

Such a dog does exist! The Basenji dog is a smaller but strong breed of African origin . It is believed that these same dogs are descendants of those depicted in Egyptian tombs with their Pharaoh masters thousands of years ago. Humans were breeding dogs to suit there needs for at least the last 3000 - 4000 years, with the Basenji being one of them. The Basenji is considered a Basal Breed, meaning that is it very high up in the lineage tree for dogs and is distinct from modern day breeds.

The Basenji dog is an elegant looking dog that shows confidence even in its walk. Its ears are sharply pointed up, its chest out and proud with an elegant curling tail as its signature end. This compact and yet agile breed was used for hunting in the Congo Basin of Africa thousands of years ago. It is believed that during this time is when it was most likely selectively bred to be stealthier by not barking. Due to the shape of its larynx, it cannot bark but it rather howls. This howl is known as a baroo. The baroo sounds more like a wolf howl or a yodel and not the usual harsh sounding dog bark we all know.

This dog makes for an excellent family pet. To this day it is used by the pygmies of Africa to hunt lions, proving their loyalty and fearlessness. These beautiful dogs can be playful and curious yet can obviously stand their ground when need be. When raised in a family environment from a young age they tend to make strong bonds with the masters.

I found this video on Youtube of a Basenji and its baroo

Wow I've never known a breed of dog that doesn't bark! And I had no idea this dog was one of the Basal Breeds, one of the purest bred dogs left today. And that it's used to hunt lions in Africa, that's pretty intense! Thanks for this informative post about the breed. As a dog breeder, I'm constantly learning and accumulating information about many different breeds of dogs. This is fascinating, thank you! :)

Hi @streetstyle I've written an article about you, check it out, if you can? thanks.

cute dog...love to see...up & rs for cute dog

When we were looking to rescue we did see a basenji, such a lovely dog with a unique howl!

My daughter is a dog groomer. She hustled for the passed 2 years and put her self through school to be a professional. If you want to see her work check out @justsailey. She knows quite a bit about dogs.

Nice info, dogs really are nice pets. Thanks.

Actually I fear dogs. But this dog looks very cute. Thanx for sharing....

@masudrana

Great information about the Basenji.

Wow, I never expected to find anything about the Basenji on steemit, it's a little breed.

@streetstyle do you own, or do you know a Basenji?

I myself am a proud owner of a Basenji male, now almost four years. We also hope to receive a female next February.

It is indeed a beautiful and sweet breed, but I feel compelled to warn, here in the Netherlands it is seen as one of the more difficult races to have. They have a spicy character and growl a lot, that is something you have to get used to.

But for the family it is a wonderful animal if you have enough training time. With us it is a really famile dog, also for our two daughters (4 and 0).

@ramaisdrama Hello and welcome to steemit. I actually do not own one but was interested when I found out about it because it doesn't bark. I thought it would make a great post here, and maybe since you do own one, a picture with a video of your dog would go great here on steemit.

Also, I do notice you are quite new here, so it there is a learning curve as well as a time curve before you generate more payouts. Some are more successful than others, and quicker too, based on their experience and/or skills offered here. Check out the #introduceyourself posts, then try to make one like the successful ones. A picture of yourself with a steemit sign and date it would be help. Let me know if you do and I will support. Take care and have fun.

Hey, I have made a post about Figo, my dog:

Thanks for sharing!

Cutest thing i saw today

So this dog does not bark, but how it will warn us if it sees someone is trying to break into our house while we are sleeping. Although this looks very good breed but people love dogs because it takes care of their houses.
