TIL: Paired Peared Sweet Cinnamon Pancakes (Original Recipe)

in til •  8 years ago

Time to switch up the post a bit as I am preparing some other interesting things in the midst of me and my entire family being sick with this really annoy and debilitating Respiratory Virus, which is lasting a bit longer than we expected. You can research it if you want, but I won't go into details on the symptoms. It's not stopping my creativity, focus and determination, I refuse to allow such nonsense :)

Today I learned that pears make some of the best toppings/fillings for a sweet pancake when you are at a loss for any other option available. Well, I was making breakfast quickly this morning, and I skipped the really heavy stuff that involves scrambled eggs, pan-fried meats, buttered toast with cheese, sometimes salad, or different kinds of sandwiches and on and on and on.

Of course we always include sliced fruits and bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and the like, however, today I just wanted thin European styled sweet pancakes, which are known as Pfannkuchen. These are not as fluffy and thick as their American counterparts, however they are just as delicious and satisfying.

I fried them on the pan in hot oil and realized that we were out of Bio Apple Sauce and Honey as options for the toppings. I wouldn't so much as jump on the chance to use sliced bananas because they are a bit dry, or even the clementine oranges because those are a bit too juicy and sometimes too tangy. So knowing me as the crafty experimental chef that I am, I had a great idea

and I quickly sliced up some sweet, ripe and juicy green pears, that were calling for me in the fruit bowl, for my hungrily awaiting family, and then, I topped the slices off with some dashes of cinnamon.

I wasn't sure how it was going to taste, but MAN OH MAN, it is actually now my newest favorite meal to have in the morning. The tender softness of the pear gave all the sweetness, and easily, for me, outdid any honey or apple sauce I could have used instead. You have to try it, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. And to complete the meal, I just poured a nice, cold glass of Mango, Passion Fruit juice and called it a day.

I had some limes that I had sliced up for my water earlier, and squeezed one over the sliced pears in one of my pancakes to see how it would taste, and it actually gave a nice, subtle tanginess to the combinations of flavors, however, it might be an acquired taste, and it really isn't necessary which is why I don't recommend it, but I, as an experimenter just try things on the whim. Well, trying to keep this post relatively short. Let me know if you try and like it. It's a pretty simple recipe, but most of the times those are the best ones.

Thank you for reading this post in its entirety. I hope you enjoyed this idea, every day breakfast is different. Gotta keep our tastebuds happy.
