White Flag

Nearly 5 months since the war started, residents of Marawi and the soldiers from different regions are celebrating the death of the Maute group leaders Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute before the dawn of October 16, 2017. They were both killed by a sniper fire. The Battle of Mawari started May 23, 2017 between the government forces and the ISIS with the help of the Maute group which resulted to the declaration of the Martial Law in Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur in Mindanao by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to ABS-CBN News, about 753 terrorists have been killed, at least 47 civilians and 155 soldiers died since the conflict started with thousands were forced to evacuate to a safe place.

I have known a soldier who died from this war. A friend from our town Culasi, Antique who fought for war against Maute. Sgt. Cris Yap Lorenzo, single and breadwinner of the family was shot dead by Maute during the military operations. Our town mourned the loss of our fallen hero while I cried for my dear friend Sheila who lost her younger brother. I prayed not only for the safety of the soldiers but also for the Maranao people. Lives lost. Senseless waste of human being. When a family lost someone, their lives will never be the same. Fathers lost their child, children lost their parents.

For what?

Sometimes, I asked myself

How can we just sit comfortably here while reading and watching the horror that our fellow brothers and sisters are experiencing?

Then I realized to leave the fight with the soldiers and the government and all we can do to help is PRAY. And today, God has ANSWERED our PRAYERS. Finally, peace in Marawi but it is still a long road to restore what had been there before.

We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone. Remember the basic needs, food, shelter and clothes. Donate.

Salute to the brave soldiers who risked their lives just to save another. Sheesh, I am a bit emotional while writing this because the Maranao people don't deserve this. Innocent children don'tdeserve this. Senseless action of these terrorists but JUSTICE IS SERVED!
