During the renovation of one of the oldest hotel in Zagreb, a glass copper capsule from the late 19th century was found. It was placed in the foundations of what it used to be a Schlessinger palace. Within the capsule important documents were found, written traces (a copy of that time), daily newspaper and some coins...
The capsule contains texts in both Croatian and German, in which a valuable section of that time is given. It is currently the oldest found capsule in the city of Zagreb.
There was a charter inside of a capsule that testified about the reign of Emperor Franjo Josip and Ban Khuen-Hédervary. It also contained the price list of goods and services at that time, as well as information about investor and the blessing for the building and all the people who will live there. There were also the original newspapers Obzor and Agramer Zeitung, printed on May 30, 1891.
The time capsule Schlessinger family put it in the headstone in 1891, making it the first and oldest found time capsule in Zagreb.
Time capsules, explained the director of the Croatian Restoration Institute Tajana Pleše, were very popular for centuries.
The idea was to send messages from that time to the future generation. Capsules were always hidden in secret places.
The tradition of taking the time capsule continues. Recently one of the banks in Croatia has allowed citizens to leave something important for future generations, and they will place this material in a time capsule or in this case a time trefoil.
If you had a chance to leave something for the future generations in a time capsule, what would it be?
