Since the Steem blockchain became a centralized, top-down dominated place, where control and censorship thrive, I have decided to move my content. Don't worry, though, all my posts and up and doing well on the decentralized Hive blockchain. Come and check it out!

Wow man, that was a lot of work! four hard hard weeks I'm sure, and just 3 days of rest??? I think about earthships a lot and we for sure will make some structures using tires.

Hey, are the squshies flexible enough I could use it like a pillow to rest on?

Nice post, following you, I've got to read more!

Yeah, well the three days of "rest" were actually full of other types of activity I had to get done, just no tire pounding on those days. As for squishies, they tend to differ, some are super flexible, others not so much. But all tires have a general nastiness about them, so I would not recommend them for pillows or things to rest on, as cool as some tire-furniture may look. But that's just me.

Oh...I know this kind of "rest" you talk abput very well!

I was kind of kidding about using a tire like a pillow, well not for the house but maybe while building with them!

The nastyness of tires is what makes me a little worried about building myself a proper earthship. On that note, some furniture is pretty cool

Yeah, if you're worried about off-gassing, you should be. Tires are oozing with carcinogens. Fortunately that should not be a problem as long as they are properly covered to prevent any air, water, or sun from touching the tire. Or so they say, which makes a lot of sense to me.

That will be the eventual fate of this wall as well. But by the time it's all covered by a layer of concrete, so you won't even see the tires, it'll look like any boring concrete wall. So because of this most tire-walls are photographed unfinished, making many people think that's how they'll stay. Well, let's remember that they shouldn't.

Yea that makes sense. If they're air tight and water tight and all that...

You could cover it so it still has the curve of the tires in there though right? I never realized a lot of photos are taken of the unfinished work.

In Earthships they are usually completely packed out and covered with cob or concrete plaster, so in the end you won't know what's inside them. Some people do leave the curves visible, like you described, precisely to show the tire work. Though I've stayed in an Earthship before where they were left completely exposed... in the kitchen out of all places! A great example of what to avoid.

Ouch... with all the food and the heat... in the kitchen?

We're thinking about using boulders on our north facing wall instead of tires because we have a bunch of them that were dug up by the previous owners and laying around in bad places.

The same engineering as the latest earthships without tires.

Of course, whichever resource is most abundant. Rocks are cool because you can puzzle them together. Tires need to be scored, categorized, put in order, etc. Usually you will have to go out and look for specific sizes, as you want each course to be uniformly tall. Yeah, tires are nice, but they do have their drawbacks...

Welcome to the ecotrain! Great post!
Please try to, whenever possible and appropriate, to use ecotrain as your first tag, in order to improve visibility for ecotrain and help to establish the tag. Cheers!

Thanks for accepting me on board, @likedeeler! I've already got a lot of welcoming messages, which I won't be able to reply to until I got decent internet.
I'm more than happy to use ecotrain as a tag, though not as the first one. That one I prefer to reserve for the general topic.
Thank you!

Just newly on board and already trying your hand at mutiny? 😘
You might find yourself walking the plank faster than you got on board! 😇
Anarchy means without rulers, not without rules!
@eco-alex, with his preference for soft language, calls them guidelines,
but nevertheless, you should look them guidelines up on discord.
To save you the trouble I quote the one relative to this issue:
"2. Please tag ecoTrain first in your posts unless its required to do otherwise (eg. competitions)"

im AM curious to know.. if there is any advantage to you for using another tag instead of ecoTrain.. As far as I can tell it doesn't really make any difference to you.. i May be missing something though! so please do share why you like to use other tags first..

the main advantage for ecoTrain is that when someone SEEs your post and likes it, it is the ecoTrain tag that shows on the main display and can be easily clicked,, and therefore brings more eyes to all our passengers.. its much less helpful to see a popular tag as clicking that just takes you to the same ol same ol

thanks!

Well, this is all just my interpretation of the world of steemit, regarding tags: If I tag a post with 'food' it'll appear in other users' search for food-related articles, even if they don't know me, or ecotrain, or any other groups I'm in. Or if that user clicks on my 'food' tag, they'll see the most recent posts with that tag, hopefully with articles having all to do with food. Now, of course there are myriads of food related posts every minute. But apply the same idea to say 'natural-building' and suddenly you really bring together everything that has been posted in that category recently. (...except for those articles that have been tagged otherwise.)

If I post that same food article with the first tag of ecotrain (or homesteadersonline), it will never reach the same people looking for food articles, but instead those who are already familiar with, and actively looking for articles with the tag of that group. However, these users are more than likely already familiar with the slack / discord channel, and / or the ecotrain magazine, etc. to look for new posts by their members.

I believe, the group will still get the exposure you are talking about, if I tag the post with the group I want to share it in, using the fifth, fourth, or even second tag. But, like I said, this is just my view. However, to increase expose to my groups, I do think I want to add a clickable banner of my groups to the end of my posts.

OOh ...EcoTrain... What is that? I'll go and look for it tomorrow, it's time for bed right now!

Very cool! Grate way to use the old tires!👍

The best way I can think of...

Great job
