Tithing was part of the Old Testament law. God promised to bless Israel if they tithed and kept the law. Tithing is not a command in the New Testament. God doesn't promise us special blessings if we tithe although the more we give the more we'll be blessed. But not necessarily on this earth. Jesus told the rich young ruler to give his wealth to the poor and he'd have treasure in heaven.
