Drilling out a stripped out screw

in tools •  6 years ago

Recently I needed to take an object apart but I could not remove one of the screws because it was stripped.

Instead of putting a screwdriver bi,t in the drill

(screwdriver bit)

I inserted a drill bit, in the drill

(drill bit)

Normally, drill bits can be bought in a multi pack

and if you need a hole the size of a tooth pick...then do not use a half inch drill bit!

To insert any such bit, hold the drill in one hand and place your fingers around the collar of the drill

(on the above drill the collar -chuck- is black...if the drill was a gun then the collar would be the barrel of the gun)

slowely squeeze the trigger, and a little claw like drill bit holder will open up. Next place the drill bit into the opening and reverse the drill

(only toch this button while putting in the drill bit, one direction opens the claws and the other direction closes the claws)

Thank you for sharing. I was taught another way: using a mini-grinder (the small handheld circular ones) you can cut a grove right across the screw top. Make it deep enough and then use a flathead screwdriver to get it out!

I did not know that...thanks for sharing! I am glad that you enjoyed what I wrote, I hope many other people feel the same way1
