Fakir Baykurt was born in Akçaköy, the village of Yeşilova in Burdur. In 1948, he completed the Gönen Village Institute and he worked as a village teacher for 5 years. He graduated from Ankara Gazi Education Institute in 1955. Teacher and then primary education inspector he did. He studied at the University of Indiana in 1962. He took part of Teachers 'Union of Turkey (TOS) and later he become in the establishment of the National Federation of Teachers' Association the President. The first teachers were excluded in 1969 due to boycott. He resigned in 1971. On 12 March 1971 he was arrested for martial law. In 1974 he went to Germany when he became free with the Amnesty Act. On 10 October 1999 he lost his life.
