Shaman Turks who believe in Göktanri have to change their beliefs of thousands of years with the access of Muslim Arabs to Central Asia. The first encounters of the Turks with the Arabs have been with the Khazars Turks over the Caucasus and with the Göktürks over the Khorasan. The Islamization of the Turks lasted for 300-350 years. The Oghuzes were Islamic in two centuries, and the Kipchak Turks in the early 14th century.
The Turks carried their old beliefs to Muslims. Instead of embracing Islam, they blended their beliefs into a new synthesis. This synthesis is a sufî interpretation of Islam, which is the middle Asianization of Islam and at the beginning of which is Hodja Ahmet Yesevî. who is the founder of Sufism, has emerged as a reaction to Islam's political struggles, ambition, and the making of benefits. Among the Turks, Islam spreads "sufis" which do not care about the religious shar'i rules, interpret religious sufis, express people in a way that they will not accept, and fuse new beliefs with the old beliefs of the people.
