We are immersed in a spiritual combat between the spiritual forces of light, and the forces of the darkness, explains the apostle Paul, that is why Jesus invites us to pass from the darkness of deceit and lies, to the light of wisdom, the true knowledge: "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient." Ephesians 2:1-2.
Paul explains in a metaphorical sense, that those who live according to the flesh (practice the sin) reap the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21), that is, fruits of death: "All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the craving of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath." Ephesians 2:3.
If we understand that faith is a grace, a gift to live according to God's law ("Love your neighbor as yourself," Mark 12:31), we are understanding Christianity: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:8-9.
God does not want the destruction of man, but a change of look, in this spiritual war: "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved" Ephesians 2:4-5.
Jesus is clear, we choose between two loves, two paths, and two retributions.
