3293 km percorsi, 4 paesi e 8 frontiere attraversate, 26 notti, 1 concerto all’alba in riva mare, 2 Biennali di Arte Contemporanea, 1 Passaporto Universale , 1 Bunker Antiatomico, Città arroccate al di sopra di imponenti cascate, Ponti ad arcata unica che uniscono l’oriente all’occidente, Minareti che svettano al fianco di Campanili Cattolici e Ortodossi, Piramidi di Civiltà Perdute, Sistemi di comunicazione aliena con altre galassie, Mura Megalitiche, Palazzi Imperiali, luoghi di Visioni Mariane, set cinematografici, 593 km di costa e il minor numero di autostrade preso. Insomma, un viaggio che non si lascerà certo dimenticare così facilmente… E meno male che è una di quelle mete poco battute dai turisti perché: “ma che ci sarà mai da vedere in BBBosnia!”, “Ma una metà più felice no?”, “ma non sarà ANCORA pericoloso?”. Se anche voi la pensate così, benvenuti nel gruppo, io non volevo neppure partire, ma è proprio quando non ti aspetti nulla che arrivano le sorprese migliori, perciò mettetevi comodi e godetevi quest’avventura, perché spero avrete modo di ricredervi!

If you also think the same, welcome on board, I didn't even want to leave, but it's exactly when you don't expect anything that comes the best surprises, so put yourself in comfort and enjoy this adventure, because I hope you will have the opportunity to change your mind!

Trieste

La notte più lunga è stata quella per arrivare a Trieste alle 4 e 50 del mattino. Volevamo vedere il concerto all’alba. Non potevamo perderci un simbolo così ben augurale per la nostra partenza. Couchsurfing in queste occasioni mi ha sempre salvato, ma in Italia si sa, le cose funzionano diversamente. Così dopo essermi beccato qualche insulto da un tipo che mi ha accusato di “approfittarmi” dei CouchSurfer per “scroccare una notte aggratise”, abbiamo optato per fare tutta una tirata notturna fino alla città italiana Mitteleuropea per eccellenza, incontro di popoli e culture.

The longest night was to arrive in Trieste at 4 and 50 am. We wanted to see the concert at dawn. We couldn't miss out on such a good symbol for our departure. This are moments when Couchsurfing has always saved me, but in Italy you know, things work differently. So after having caught some insult from a guy who accused me of "taking advantage" of the CouchSurfer to "break up a night for free", we opted to do all the night shooting up to the Italian mitteleuropean city par excellence, melting pot of peoples and cultures.

Il "concerto" all'alba

Arrivarci di notte è stato veramente un dono cui nessuno scatto potrà rendere giustizia e che ci ha ricambiato della fatica. Venendo da Sud si costeggia il mare su una stradina che di notte ha una magia difficile da descrivere. Ad attenderci però non è stato esattamente quello che ci eravamo prefigurati, più che un concerto, era un assolo di Pianoforte (avevamo letto male la notizia).

Arriving at night was really a gift that no one can do justice to and which has given us back the fatigue. Coming from the South, you go along the sea, along a road that at night has a magic difficult to describe. But waiting for us it wasn't exactly what we had figured out, rather than a concert, it was a piano solo (we had badly read the news).

Molo Audace, Concerto all'alba

Semi abbandonato su di un molo sferzato dal noto vento triestino e dagli schiamazzi del pubblico, il pianista ha cominciato il suo concerto. Sarà per le diverse centinaia di chilometri appena percorsi, o forse per la nottata in bianco, ma ascoltarlo ha veramente richiesto uno sforzo di concentrazione notevole, misto a pratica zen per non esplodere in sfuriate contro ignoti. Come spesso accade infatti, il richiamo del gratuito ha portato con se una frotta di gente venuta più perché “fa figo” che per vera passione, ma sopratutto senza nessun rispetto verso il prossimo.

Semi abandoned on a wharf whipped by the well-known wind of Trieste and the crowd's crap, the pianist began his concert. Because of the several hundred kilometres just travelled, or perhaps for the sleepless night, listening to him really required a considerable concentration effort, mixed with Zen practice so as not to explode infuriate against unknown. As often happens, in fact, the recall of the gratuitous has brought with it a crowd of people who came more because "it's cool" than for real passion, but above all without any respect towards others.

Ma a concerto finito, la folla ha cominciato a svaporare, lasciando il molo a una più raccolta poesia dell'alba.

But at the end of the concert, the crowd began to disperses, leaving the pier to a more intimate poem at dawn.

Me l’ero sempre immaginata più grande, Trieste, e invece è un gioiellino minuscolo. Ci perdiamo per le sue strade e le sue chiese. Finalmente capisco cosa voglia veramente dire mitteleuropea. Non è certo in questa città mi aspetto le mescolanze più forti, ma comincio ad avvertire netto l'odore del viaggio che comincerà di lì a poche ore.

I had always imagined Trieste bigger, and instead it's a tiny jewel. We get lost in its streets and churches. I finally understand what it really means mitteleuropean. It's not in this city that I expect the strongest melting pot, but I begin to feel the smell of the journey that will start in a few hours.

Per riprenderci un pochino dalla nottata in bianco ci fermiamo a un bar del centro per un caffè… E se l’effetto non lo ha fatto la caffeina, di sicuro lo hanno ottenuto gli 8€ spesi per due caffè e due cornetti. Ci giriamo a piedi la città nei limiti del possibile ripromettendoci di non cadere nella tentazione di farci un pisolino in albergo ma di resistere fino a sera, così poi da crollare.

To get back a little bit from the sleepless night we take a coffee in a bar in the center... And if the wake up effect did not make caffeine, surely they got it the 8€ spent for two coffees and two croissants. We walk around the city as far as possible, promising not to fall into the temptation to take a nap in the hotel but to resist until the evening, so that we could fall asleep.

Trieste dal Castello di San Giusto

San Giusto

Saliamo a vedere la Cattedrale di San Giusto Re e il Castello di San Giusto. La prima merita decisamente, il castello ha una bella vista, ma la ristrutturazione e gli interventi che gli hanno fatto per accogliere le cucine e non so cos’altro, hanno del discutibile.

We climb to see the Cathedral of San Giusto Re and the Castle of San Giusto. The first one definitely deserves, the castle has a nice view, but the renovation and the interventions they made to accommodate the kitchens and I do not know what else is questionable.

E così dopo una passeggiata alla “rambla” Triestina la nostra giornata di 48ore volge al termine. Domani attraverseremo il confine con l’Italia dando inizio davvero al nostro viaggio.

And so after a walk to the "rambla" Triestina, our day of 48 hours is coming to an end. Tomorrow we will cross the border with Italy and really start our journey.
